Subwoofer upgrade day: Klipsch R-12SWi --> Dual Hsu VTF-3 MK5

Upgraded from a single Klipsch R-12SWi (wireless) to dual HSU VTF-3 MK5's. Also included my Audioengine S8 computer sub to get the whole family in the photo.

Still working on getting them dialed-in, but so far they are absolutely phenomenal.

HSU VTF-15H is about the best bang for buck. SVS, Rythmik and PSA have excellent subwoofers as well. Not to mention all 4 of those companies like to play below 20hz for those awesome lows.

OSD Black Trevoce 15EQ DSP Subwoofer

Subwoofer performance scales with size, you need a large cabinet in conjunction with a low tuning frequency to achieve good bass extension. Sure, you can apply DSP and make any subwoofer flat to 20Hz. But then you run out of headroom fast, I would bet my last dollar that the OSD sub starts hitting compression 5dB earlier than something like the HSU VTF-3 MK5, which is the same price.

So I did a thing. Upgraded from the Elite SW-E10 to the SVS PB-1000 after my previous post lol

What I noticed is that if i put the gain right at half, then sub is not as loud but as soon as I go just a tad bit higher, 1 or 2'o clock position then it is PERFECT. Just put your hand near the port to feel the amount of air being moved when you have a good bass scene/music. It's insane!. I keep debating whether to keep the PB10 and picking up another used one on craigslist or to just go all out and upgrade to dual HSU VTF-3 MK5's.

Especially in cases where the sub is used in an Apartment, without the need to have wall shaking bass for movies. Yes.

7.2.4 for a 13x16 room

Subs: Dual Hsu VTF-3 Mk5 ($1807). Atmos: Polk MC60 x4 ($320). Total: $4727. About the same overall price, but the Reserve series measures a bit better and shuffling the budget around let's you fit in a couple bigger subwoofers.
