Purchased these Hunter boots with the adjustable back after first purchasing the original Hunter boots and the calves just barely fit me. These with the adjustable back were great in the adjustable aspect and would fit fairly wide calves. However; I had them cinched to make them small which made them bulky on the back of my leg to the point where when I sat down, it was very uncomfortable because it then hit the back of my knee. These are TALL boots

 I normally wear a 7.5 wide and everyone said to size down if you are in between sizes. The first pair I bought were 8's and they were way too big even with thick socks. This pair is perfect even with my feet being wide (for an idea of how wide my foot is, Converse are sooooo tight on me that I have to get an 8 so I can even lace them up

I decided to order a size down based on the mixed reviews but I should've followed the chart this time. My specs: 17 inch calf (yep, measured just for you), I wear size 7 1/2 in Michael Kors Slip-on sneakers and G by Guess sneakers, and I wear size 8 in Jessica Simpson and Christian Siriano heels. I purchased the boots in a size US 7/EU 38/UK 5 in the matte black color. The boots are extremely difficult to take off if your legs/calves are as thick as mine, and after taking them off I had a minor sensation that I still had them on

 The matte black is beautiful and looks exactly as pictured. The boots feel sturdy but not clunky and have great bend in the ankle. This is an initial review so I can't speak on durability of the material, but we are in hurricane season here in South Florida till November so I'll get to test the material in the elements. I plan to order the size 8 and compare the fit to the 7

 Disclaimer: I did order a size down, fearful they ran large, so if I had the recommended size 8 I may not have these issues. Now, these rain boots are nothing short of spectacular from my initial observation. I've ordered and returned supposed wide-calf friendly rain boots by Joules and DKSUKO and they were fails compared to Hunter in overall fit. Even a size down, the Hunter boots fit comfortably with a thin sock on, and would be tolerable if I had to keep the size 7

Love these new boots, and don’t regret the price. I’d wanted rain boots for years and could never find any that fit my calves (which I didn’t think were abnormally large or anything..

 The navy blue in the boots I received are almost black. My husband said, they’re black, not navy. So I have to send them back. It’s not so bad because Amazon has the ones I wanted

Wrong boot. .

 Highly recommend thick wool socks or boot liners if you're purchasing them for the snow. The plastic will turn into an ice box quickly and you won't feel your toes after 10-15 minutes with just ordinary socks. Also, make sure you get the boots for wide calf. I ordered the kind without the adjustable strap prior to these ones and had to send them back because they were too tight (I've NEVER had to order wide-calf boots before)
