Hi all, I have an old Ibanez Gio GAX30 guitar that is essentially not much of a guitar... However, I like how it plays and it has a nice low action.

Love it, and it gets me playing everyday. I did not upgrade because I felt like having a GIO was too beginner of a guitar for me. Overall, all that matters to me is that I can play on something comfortable, and something that when I look at it, it makes me want to pick it up even outside my regular practice schedule.

The first electric guitar I ever played was a broken down fender strat my school had let me use. I spent around 3 months teaching myself the basics, and just getting used to guitar, before finally saving up enough money to get my own. I ended up with an Ibanez Gio, which was one of the best gear decisions I’ve ever made. It’s affordable but good quality for playing punk and metal.

I bought my first guitar a few months ago, an Ibanez gio, it was similar idea, a metal looking guitar. I really liked it, bit I sold it last week, it was just not overly comfortable for me and I think it was down to the ergonomics, it was a super strat shape, and it had a shape that didn't inspire me for my music type. So I've sold it and gotten a different type that appeals to my eye.

Their low end is a bit iffy, the Ibanez Gio tends to have rather bad fit and finish with a lot of mistakes here and there. not unplayable but certainly noticeable if you look at it.

Look at the Ibanez GIO line or the Standard models. They are usually free of the fretboard issues you are likely to get in the lowest price segment. For amps, a Fender Champion 20 or Mustang LT25 would be perfect and the Fender Mustang I V2 is everywhere cheap. These things will give you a wide range of guitar tones and effects at low volume level.
