 The Aurora clear switches I tried which are in this board right now are insanely smooth. like it's one of the smoothest stock switches out there identical in smoothness to the Ttc Gold Pinks and is a pretty loud and higher pitch soundings, uh sounding switch, although it's a bit masked with the poron sheet right here. Also, the stabs not much to talk about, but the Ws stabs work with the thin Pcb and it's pretty good. My personal favorite configuration for this board is with the poron sheet plate foam with none of the bottom silicone installed

The best budget custom keyboard? | Ikki68 Aurora R2 Review

For its price, it is one hell of a deal, especially if you are looking into getting into the custom keyboard scene and can't quite get something like a Tofu, NK65 EE, KBD67 Lite, Portico, Ikki68 Aurora, or others. Compared to something like the NK65 EE, this could potentially be a much better option for you, if Cherry Profile keycaps are not really your main profile.

My first custom keyboard build! Waited months for this but it's absolutely worth it. Couldn't have done it without the support of my gf!

Honestly it is a good board to get you started on customization. It’s hot swappable, 65% layout, and you can re-map the keys. What more can you ask for? Sure it is a little pricey but I’ve never heard anyone complain about the functionality and look of the drop alt and you can interchange every aspect of the keyboard. The only thing I would complain about it is the stabs but those are relatively cheap.

Drop Alt hipro is my daily driver. I enjoy it. For something that ships prebuilt, it’s pretty great. You can take it right out of the box and you’re good.

I got the Drop Alt with Halo True clears last week. Immediately lubed up the switches and modded the stabs. Its a good board, but in order to use it comfortably I need a wrist rest. I wish I had gone with a full size board. I would return it but I'm not sure if I can return a modded board to amazon.

A Tofu with O-Ring mods is the best entry level imo. Mine is my daily.

Also KBD67 Lite. So many boards that offer better typing experiences, VIA support, lower power draw so you can use pretty much any custom cable, south facing switches, etc.

I have 2 Drop ALT boards, 1 Drop CTRL and 1 Carina. Great boards just be sure to lube those stabs.

The Alt is a good starter board if you get it on sale. I think the regular price of $180 is far too much for what you get. If you get deeper into this hobby you'll soon want something better though. I sold mine after 6 months because of the north facing LEDs, incompatibility with cables longer than 4 ft, stiff typing feel, and got tired of cutting pins off of my switches to fit the board.

I'd recommend the KBD67 Lite over the Alt. I think it's the best starter board you can get for the price. I love mine and have zero complaints or regrets buying it. Looks like Divinikey has some in stock now.

The drop alt will always be really loud and is extremely stiff and even when modded it wont sound as good as something of considerable price. Even with the amount of rgb it gives I really dont find it as useful as my drop alt is just sitting in the corner as it has too many issues.

I just went from an ALT HP to a Keychron Q1. Out of the box the Q1 feels much worse! But I believe it has much better potential, just gonna need a lot of work. The ALT is definitely not a bad board to start with

In my opinion: no

Here is why: first of all, you have a North facing pcb, that means some switches and Keycap combinations could cause interference.. That is only a little issue depending on which things you wanna use

The big issue for me is that this thing doesn't support screw in stabilizers, you can mod clip in stabs all the way you like but I doubt you can come close to screw in stabilizers..

Next issue: it's a very trashy stock typing experience, everything rattles, you have to mod it to make it sound good.

Next but the last issue for me: the LED ring sucks, you can not adjust it to be fully white and you have bad light diffusion, the ring just starts looking bad really quickly imo and having it turned off is basically having a grey ring around a cool looking case.

Oh and I forgot to mention that the low profile look can look very boring after a while, your switches will be exposed and it also contributes to worse acoustics. Some people like this design choice but I don't. I have the drop ctrl high profile and well.. It is kinda disappointing.

I would get the GMMK pro instead or some budget option. The sale is all nice but the product is just okay and nothing too special..

I have a drop ctrl high profile, and after putting some case foam in it, some lubed and clipped durock plate mount stabs, doing the bandaid mod, and putting a nice ASA profile keycap set on it with some lubed durock t1 switches, it actually feels and sounds quite good in my opinion. Of course there are some things that you can’t change, like the integrated plate, which makes the board feel very stiff, but that isn’t something that bothers everyone. The lack of VIA support may be an issue, but for me that also wasn’t a deal breaker. Over all, I feel like it looks quite nice, and with a little bit of work, and some extra money, it can be quite a nice board. Overpriced? Yeah, definitely. Still worth it? Well, that’s really up to you, but I would say yeah, just for the sake of having another fun board

I personally think there are better options out there in the price range, but if the drop alt is the aesthetic you are looking for then get the alt. I would advise you explore all the options in your price range before purchasing though.

if you are looking at the alt, there are other boards you can try to pick up that share similar layout that might be better. however, I find the drop ctrl to be the better pick up if you are looking for a TKL of that form factor, cause there really isn't much other options in that regard for the price range.

Looking at the drop alt/ctrl for my first custom keyboard. Good choice?

The ikki68 Aurora r2 in clear might work for you. gB ended awhile ago, but extras are likely to release in 1-2 months.

I'm looking for a keyboard with the fully transparent aesthetic but would also like the keyboard to be wireless because my desk is already quite cluttered and don't need any more cables. So far, the only keyboard I found to match what I want is the Mojo68 but it's way to expensive. I've also considered the MW65 but the transparent option is out of stock on AliExpress and it is also wired. 

Any suggestions?
