My desk at work is 51" wide and I will be getting a 36" wide ultrawide monitor. This leaves me around 15" of space for some speakers. Now there are plenty of good speakers that are less than 7.5" wide but because I want the speakers to be pointed at me, they need to sit diagonally - which means their horizontal footprint turned must not be wider than 7.5". That leaves me with speakers around the 5-6". Any advice for a pair of small speakers (and an amp as well) that sound great if price is not a consideration?

 IMO this is WAY too much money for what you get given the many other low-end or budget options on the market now for studio monitors. Not close to pro level audio.

I heard good things about these so gave them a try. They sound ok, particularly given the small driver size, but when I finally got around to direct A/B comparisons with other comparable low cost "studio monitor" options they just didn't hold up. This is based on subjective listening to a couple of different mixes and styles of music as well as more quantitative analysis with REW etc. Main issue I found is a nasty resonance/rattle right at 50Hz - in the speaker enclosures - and no amount of mechanical isolation or fooling around will correct it

Hello, I'm listening to various genres, and I already own B2 (too neutral for me, + not a huge fan of it's soundstage which feels overly "busy" at times), Kato, ikko's OH7 and dt 1990pro. My favorite being the OH7 : music feels so emotional and engaging with this IEM, and in the end I'm an audiophile, not a sound engineer! Also, I hate the general consumer tuning of most ANC headphones I've tried, apart from the lack of technical performances, it often feels lifeless to me.

I mostly listen to electronic musics and BASS, but I also like many other genres, I can't stop listening to woodkid's Iron ep lately for example, I have a funk and soul playlist that I like a lot and I'm exploring coldwave and retrowave for a couple of months. A little bit of indie rock and jazzy hip hop too.

Sources: shanling m3x - my most used one- btr5, Sonata HD pro and EVO 4 for headphones.

I tried a variety of headsets too but was mostly disappointed with them. I couldn't try the aeon noire though, and I didn't have much time to really evaluate the Clear mg, but if one of those is as good as everyone says, maybe I could up my budget a little bit and settle for a headphone, but to be honest, start to think that I may just be more of an IEM kind of guy ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ . Zero experience with decent speakers.

My aim is to get a new way to experience the music I like, but mostly in an emotionally engaging way.

And I'm a little bit treble sensitive.

Best Desktop Speakers/Studio Monitors

 I want the sound of the SK grand, and the EX, as well as the B3 and Church organ sounds to sound as good as if I am listening through a board or quality head phones. the IK i Louds are by far the best. So why only a 4?  I gave it a 4-star rating because when I set my Kawai to the first setting, SK Concert Grand, C5, the octave above middle C creates an unbearable sympathetic vibration buzz from the right speaker. I had to press my finger on the bottom of the grille to silence it

  The setting on the back sound good too. I use "desk" and keep the high end flat, and when I boost the volume to 3/4 up, I cut the low end, and I still get plenty of low end. The bass on the B3 patches really comes out. The low end of the pianos sound full and balanced too, the sound is authentic and crisp

 RATS! I tried to create a shim to press on the grate around the bottom edge, but the depth of the speaker housing will not let me secure a shim of rubber, electrical tape or folded paper. I attempted to pull the grate off, but its one there tight, but by pulling up on the bottom of the grate with a screwdriver, I was able to alter the grate enough to squelch the vibration.  I bought the MP7 SE because it has the same newer action of the ES 8, the same sounds, and a lot more sounds, many more organ, and brass sounds. I wanted the MP7SE because I can mimic many pipe organ sounds, I can blend 4 channels at once, I can set overlapping splits, and the B3 C3 sounds are incredible

 The bass on the B3 patches really comes out. The low end of the pianos sound full and balanced too, the sound is authentic and crisp.

These are best speakers to use on an authentic sounding digital stage piano.

Hello all!

I'm moving into a new apartment, and it's not a big one. I like listening to music while working from home, and so I intend to have a pair of speakers on my desk (a DENON RCD-M40 shelf system) at the office room, and I'd like to make the best use of it that I can.

The room is literally tiny, 2.1×1.8m (7×6ft approx), and I must use the narrower wall for the desk (due the the door placement). However I don't listen to music loud, and it's a 2×30W system, so it's not like I'll be obliterating any walls soon.

I have considered covering the walls in acoustic foam to avoid any resonance, but not sure how effective that would be. The floor is wood (not laminate) and the ceiling is a plaster panel with recessed lighting.

Mostly I'm looking for other people that have or had a similar setup and could share what did and didn't work for them, and photos if you have them. I'm also looking for aesthetic advice as well, as I'd hate to spend time and money putting things into it only to have it look like an eyesore.

  Well, as always is the case, you cannot defy the laws of physics. I will reach out to the manufacturer and see if they have any diy solutions that I can do to fully use these speakers without this limitation. Other than that annoying high pitched buzzing, the speakers sound great, seem well built, and are sturdy. I wish they had an optical input though, but that would add to the cost as it would need more circuitry

Good sound but a fatal flaw

Near field speakers is where it’s at, going from vanatoo t0 or iloud micro ($200-360) to similarly priced hps is always sad.

I try and kid myself I prefer headphones, but hi-fi when it's good is just better.

I think speakers are easier for people to accept as well. You tell someone you spent a few thousand dollars on a speaker setup and they think that's great. Tell them you spent over $500 on headphones and they think you're nuts

I think Youtuber Darko mentioned this very thing in his recent youtube post. USD 2,000 even doesn't even scratch the surface for audiophile-grade speakers. Easier to achieve TOTL for headphones than speakers at this price level

While not as nice as the open baffle setup, here is my vintage Technics Pro Line living room setup from 1977. Completely recapped, sounds very nice.

I wish I did, because my bank account would thank me. Unfortunately, though I love my headphones (Final Audio Design Sonourous VI), they kind of lie to me about what I'm actually hearing. And I like hearing AND feeling the music -- not just hearing it.

I agree and disagree. At times, nothing is better than blasting my towers and sub, and other times, nothing is better than putting on my headphones. Different situations, and each has their strength.

I'm glad I prefer headphones

 Sound is all very personal in my opinion so its hard to describe to others what your own ears hear but to me, these don't quite have the "space" or spatial/airy feeling that the Rockits had. To describe it another way my KRK's "fill" the room with sound where they throw sound directly at you. I feel they are more focused in delivery. I can see some people not picking up on this at all but it's noticeable to me

 I did just that!  The Great 1. They're very small 2. They sound VERY good - especially for their size. I was betting on these not having a good low end but to my surprise these are not lacking in my book at all

 In all honesty though I'm going from a fairly large speaker enclosure to a tiny little speaker so to loose only a very small margin of sound quality is amazing. 3. I don't like the very thick proprietary cable going from the right speaker to the left (supplies power and audio signal). It's just a bit bulky and limits placement a bit, but does its job just fine
