 Don’t waste your time downloading the app as suggested in the guide. It has recipes for a few other Instant appliances, but NOT for the Zest.  The lid doesn’t come off for cleaning and there are NO cleaning instructions in the guide that comes with the cooker. The guide that came with the cooker says white rice takes 25-60 minutes to cook. What? How do you plan a meal with that range? I get that the Zest isn’t a pressure cooker and that the amount your cooking determines the cook time, but why can’t the so-called smart program tell me how long it’s going to take to cook? Instead of a countdown timer, the dumb display only reads “ON” until 10 minutes before the end of the cycle

Works well. Hard to clean.

 Brown rice takes forever still which was a reason I hated doing it on the stove.  One thing I do like is that I can open it while it’s cooking, add things like sautéed onions or more water.  Overall, I recommend buying a highly rated rice cooker instead or a second IP

I bought this cast iron Dutch oven slow cooker to replace my really, really old West Bend slow cooker. I chose this one to try because it's Teflon-free and seems less likely to crack like ceramic liners are known to do. So far these are my pros and cons for this unit:

 I wanted to drop the temp for the last 10 minutes when it was just supposed to simmer on low. But I had to cancel the current cook settings, then set up a new manual cook job for the second half.

This is SOLID. The top, the crock, it's heavy and far more sturdy than the material my slow cooker's crock is made from.

Outstanding when grabbed on sale

  Awesome decision on my part! It cooks my rice (jasmine and basmati) sooo perfectly. I like the pot in this rice cooker way better than the one that was in my Aroma. The Aroma would almost overcook the rice sometimes, and even if it was just nicely cooked, the rice stuck. The Instant Pot does not stick! It's a much better coating

In short, the machine seems fine, but not user friendly for a first time rice cooker owner who would like to use all the advertised features (other than cooking rice).
