4 cores and 8 threads, often the cheapest that has both. Also good is the R3 3300X($150) but it's more expensive generally and slower the ugh you get access to dirt cheap motherboards with it. Above the core i3-10100 is the core i5-10400(F) ($150), very similar but you get more cores and threads. The R5 3600 ($200 MSRP) is also good but generally much more expensive and performance is around the same.

If you have micro center nearby the intel core i5 10400f (6 cores, no iGPU, closest competitor to the ryzen 3600) is $129 in-store, and the 10700f (8 cores, no iGPU, equivalent to 3700x) is $229. 6 cores or 8 cores, intel 10th gen has better single threaded performance and less memory weirdness=better gaming compared to ryzen 3000, but uses more power and has more costly motherboard in addition to not allowing overclocking though...I’m not sure about the motherboard overclocking. Some let you play with power limits.
