ordered new cpu , got a Celeron g6900 in the box. be careful

 So for instance, these are the Ballistix Max 5100 megahertz DIMMs, the fastest production DDR4 that was ever made. The starting speed of these Vengeance is 5200. The Trident Z here is 6000 megahertz. And these are the Dominator Platinums, which are also 5200s

 So we'll talk about some of the motherboard designs and how they're going to talk about how they're going to implement that. Because of the fact that 12th gen is backwards compatible with DDR4. So that is something to keep in mind. Another thing to talk about is speeds

So many cores to use!

 The 5900X that we did our testing with the other day with the little printed fan shroud thing that we did. Remember that was hitting 140 Watts at the start of the test with 24 cores. And then would drop down to about 120 Watts after it starts to drop its boost or its turbo clocks after the cooler got too hot. The 12th gen is hitting 250 Watts and up to 280 Watts if you're overclocking at all

 ASUS has done a very good job at basically keeping it from being stripped of any sort of feature sets, reliability, cooling ability, VRMs or any of that stuff. So I don't feel like my situation here would be exclusive to ITX. I think it would be basically cross compatible with all of the ASUS motherboards out there. Now your results may obviously vary if you're using a gigabyte board, MSI board, ASRock board, whatever other boards are out there

 So mine is obviously gonna be specific to ASUS. Now with that said, the problems that we've experienced in the past with systems, especially with day one adoption or even I would just, we didn't adopt day one it was quite a few months in, but I feel like ASUS has been struggling with just some of the weird nuances in their bios now for a while. And my previous video I talked about the corners that manufacturers have had to cut to keep up with demand. I'm not sure how many of these problems are also specific to potentially that versus it just being a new generation because all the Ryzen stuff that we have here in this studio is also on ASUS motherboards and they haven't been experiencing any of the weirdness

 It's hot. You need a heck of a cooler to keep it cool. The 5900X that we did our testing with the other day with the little printed fan shroud thing that we did. Remember that was hitting 140 Watts at the start of the test with 24 cores

I've been using the Intel 12900k for a month now... Here's how it's been...

 That is except for the new Alder Lake CPUs where I've primarily tested with a DDR5 5200MHz kit, but the performance difference between these two kits honestly is not that different from what I've tested so far. Tomorrow though I will be doing a more focused video on DDR4 versus DDR5 to just evaluate the performance differences a little bit better and especially testing this 6000MHz DDR5 kit from G.Skill, so definitely stay tuned for that. I've also used a 360mm cooler for all of my testing here, the MSI S360, and that is an important note because the new i9 does get pretty toasty

 Otherwise granted that you're not running into any thermal problems we're looking at boost clocks for all 8 performance cores sitting at a speedy 4.9GHz and all 8 efficiency cores still running at a respectable 3.7GHz. In the end it was cyberpunk 2077 that showed the best performance for the new i9 particularly the one percent low performance which is about 12 percent ahead of the two Ryzen 9 chips

 As for whether you should go for DDR4 versus a DDR5 memory kit though the most economic option at the moment is to go with a low latency 3200MHz DDR4 kit running that synced with the memory controller in gear 1. Not only is that the best value option but I mean even when it comes to performance sometimes you are actually beating a DDR5 5200MHz kit in some production workloads only to lose a few fps when it comes to gaming. Again more testing coming up talking about this in depth very soon. And again just a little disclaimer AMD are looking to follow up this Intel launch with a 3D cache update for their current ships in early 2022 so if you don't need to upgrade right away then I would highly recommend waiting to see what the competition looks like

 An argument still can be made of course for the Ryzen 5950x for some CPU only rendering workflows but I do feel that the number of those workflows is decreasing as GPU rendering with RTX becomes a lot more popular and significantly more powerful than rendering on any CPU. Like I mentioned earlier I do think an argument can definitely be made for the faster single threaded performance of the 12900k which can help pick up the slack in those tasks that aren't as multi-threaded and I mean even if you do need to render on the CPU you still have a monster 16 cores at your disposal which you know let's not forget that it is still cheaper than a Ryzen 5950x.
