What's a good VPN that I can stick with for the long term?

As the title of this post states, I am looking to change up my VPN (currently using Nord) and want to find one that people recommended that has access to split tunneling and port forwarding. After doing some searching within this sub and on others like it, a lot of people are recommending Mullvad but it doesn't have split tunneling on Windows, correct? Anyone with Mullvad have decent speeds and connectivity when torrenting?

I would love  to have both features, but I have only found one VPN that seems to have both, which is Ivacy and reading around about it makes the VPN seem pretty sketchy. Thank you anyone in advance for any help!

Hi Mates,

I was using SlickVPN Core to download my "'Linux stuff", then I joined at this amazing sub because the download speed is killing me softly and now I learn that don't have a Kill Switch put me at ISP rage risk.

After reading a lot, seeing different tables comparing providers , 14 eyes+1buddha'sEye, seeing a lot of hide marketing (this business seems to move a lot of money) etc... What do you recomend for torrenting with a peace of mind from the Sunshine State and have the option to connect with a server at SPAIN to see some restricted geolocation websites.

Or maybe I'm overreacting like the demon of my ex usually did and my setup is quite good for torrenting.

Upgrade my VPN?

Many people look for a VPN with the primary goal of running Bittorrent. Sadly nearly equally many people have no idea what's important there and recommend a random popular VPN **without port-forwarding**. They know no better. These misguided 'recommendations' are all over this sub and r/piracy too.

# Explanation

If you are OK with your downloads failing in 10% of cases then continue as usual. If you don't want to miss a chance, here's a short explanation:

Bittorrent relies on your connection working both ways: to accept **incoming** and **outgoing** connections. **Without port-forwarding**: you ~~may~~ will see slower speeds, slower speed ramp up and if a torrent has *very few online seeders* you may run into a situation where you cannot connect to anybody at all!

Normally consumers **cannot accept incoming** connections due to NAT. This is always the case for proxies and VPNs, but some VPNs allow the assignment of a port that will always lead to your computer (and connect to your client). Making **outgoing connections** is always technically possible but then you rely on the seed/peer to have their ports open! There's no way around.

A detailed explanation would be too long but you can ask in comments.

# How to

1. Pick a VPN provider that supports port-forwarding. Here's [a list I compiled last month](https://www.reddit.com/r/VPNTorrents/comments/oqnnrq/list_of_vpns_that_allow_portforwarding_2021/).
2. Pick [a client and force it](https://www.reddit.com/r/VPNTorrents/comments/ohe3xm/10_bittorrent_clients_tested_who_offers_proper/) to only ever use the VPN connection in settings (see screenshots). This is called IP/network binding
3. In client settings set the "incoming port" to match the forwarded port from your VPN provider (also referred to as "local port")
   1. Disable UPnP and other automatic configuration unless your VPN provider explicitly only works with UPnP.
4. You are set. Bon voyage at the calm seas!

Sometimes you also need to allow incoming connections to the client application in your firewall.

On the other hand, it is possible that the no-log VPN is forced to disclose which account <em>currently</em> (at the time of request) has the port in question configured. So far without known precedents. I believe it&#39;s worth it, without seeding torrents would die.</p>

Answered: Why you do need port-forwarding for Bittorrent

50$ a month. I've been trying to look into different vpn providers recently and this is basically the sum of what I've found with mullvad.

Price for what you get, mullvad us actually pretty nice. And out of all vpn providers I've used, I've never seen one try to make you so anonymous as then. Port forwarding and wireguard profile makes it a really good deal if you don't care about all the extra gimmicks. It's also 5

A few cheap ones I would stay away from are ivacy and purevpn. Purevpn had some privacy issues a few years back with them giving information to the fbi. And ivacy at least used to use purevpn as a host (this was a few years ago so it could have changed by now) cuz I did a whois on one of the ivacy vpns and it came up as purevpn.
