 Now this is my kind of snowboard the Jones mind expander has been a white lines test team favorite for many seasons But this year it has been upgraded with a new surf camber profile Wow, this one went down well with the test team if you ever needed some indication of the mind expander success Consider that it's also available in a women's youth split twin and ultra version I'm racking my brain to think of any other board with a mind expander And I'm going to be using this board for a couple of weeks and then I'm going to be using this board for a couple of weeks And then I'm going to be using this board for a couple of weeks and then I'm going to be using this board for a couple of weeks So this is the main winter version also and the ultra version I'm racking my brain to think of any other board with that many different versions available on the market But this is the classic mind expander have got with my right here The alternative all mountain snowboard seems to have captured the zeitgeist A new wave of snowboards that will happily go everywhere a more conventional park piece to powdershake would But you might have to rethink just what that looks like and essentially that's kind of the point So let's start with this season's new tweaks the main one being the introduction of the surf camber profile It's something that even Jeremy himself admitted was one of the biggest debates among their own team. So what used to be a flat rockered profile has now been replaced with a predominantly positive camber bend apart from these small pockets of rocker here in the tail and a slightly larger one in the nose. In actual fact, one of our test riders initially rode this without being told about the new camber profile and almost instantly was blown away with how different and how fun it was to ride. You'll be able to find so much more grip and precision on the edge now and back foot steering through the arc of the turn gives the board a proper surfy feel

 Even with the fully rockered profile gone this season, the directional tapered outline and the really pronounced 3D spooning in the nose and tail makes this such a good snowboard for taking into fresh snowfall. I'm talking about tight tree runs, slashing wind lips, buttering through low angle powder fields and finding little drops in pillows to get airborne from. The tighter side cut and the reasonably soft 6 out of 10 flex rating give the mind expander a super fun and forgiving feel, especially in between the feet where the flex is a little softer thanks to the reinforced nose and tail. And on the subject of construction and materials, you won't be surprised to see sustainability and eco innovation running right throughout this one

 In actual fact, one of our test riders initially rode this without being told about the new camber profile and almost instantly was blown away with how different and how fun it was to ride. You'll be able to find so much more grip and precision on the edge now and back foot steering through the arc of the turn gives the board a proper surfy feel. And that's only improved with the traction tech edges where you have these really subtle disruptions along the side cut for increased grip throughout various parts of the turn. On top of that, the redesigned wood core features primarily polonia stringers, but there's also bamboo stringers positioned in the pocket of the side cut for better edge response and turn power

Jones Mind Expander 2023 Snowboard Review

 What up guys, TJ here. I'm at the top of Blackcomb Glacier right now. We got tons of powder everywhere and today I want to be checking out the 2018 Jones Mind Expander. The Mind Expander is a new board for Jones for this year and it's basically a pure powder snowboard

 It's got a directional flex, I'd say pretty significantly directional, like five and a half, six out of 10 in the rear and about a four out of 10 in the nose, so significantly softer in the nose. Kevin took us to one of the most amazing zones ever. About to go surfing on the Mind Expander. If you're looking for a powderboard, the Mind Expander is definitely going to exceed your expectations

I have some knee problems on my back leg that make the powder lean-back even tougher than normal, and I'm hoping that something with a little more setback will help to alleviate that effort. My daily driver is a 161w slightly asym twin that doesn't have much powder float.

I'm roughly 6' 2", 180, 11.5 boot. I really like the idea of some of the directional surfy shapes that are volume shifted, but it seems tough to find ones that are also wide enough for larger boots. + it seems hard to search by setback.. In terms of my riding style- entirely resort for the time being, love to be in the trees. Small airs, but I'm not hucking any fat cliffs. Don't really ride switch much at all.

Any boards ya'll have liked that have a nice setback stance?

Powder boards with a large setback?

 That 3D contour base is also going to give you a more efficient glide in powder. And one other thing is that it actually has a pretty short effective edge. So the contact points actually have a pretty significant amount of nose and tail outside the contact points. So on hard pack, you're going to get a quick snappy maneuverable feel out of it

 And I got to say that it does flow extremely well. And every time I've taken it into powder, I've left the stance centered in the side cut because, you know, to me, the idea with this board is to be able to ride powder switch, to be able to hit natural features and land in powder switch. So you're not making that compromise like you do with the more directional boards, but still offer a nice benefit for flow. And I think this board does that really well

What is your favorite board and why?

 That allows for fluid entry and exit into turns, making this a super fun board to carve. You'll also have Jones's Traction Tech 2.0, which gives you slight bumps down the edge of the board to give you a little bit better grip in firmer conditions. And because the Mind Expander is in Jones's Surf Series, you'll get a 3D contoured base, so on the nose and tail of this board it is slightly beveled to give you better float and powder

 With that camber you're going to get a more stable ride at higher speeds, and that's also going to make this a hair stiffer than it has been in the past with the old surf rocker profile. Additionally, they have bumped the stance 20mm forward towards the nose on this board for this year, so with these two new upgrades you're going to have a board that wants to carve a little bit harder and just charge a little harder than it has in the past. I think these two new upgrades makes this board extra exciting for 2023, because in the past if you wanted a regular camber Mind Expander, you had to bump up to the Ultra Mind Expander, which for some people was too stiff. But now we have a regular Mind Expander with a great mid flex that is going to rip everywhere

 The Mind Expander retails for $599.95 and comes in sizes $146, $150, $154, $158, $162, and $166. Now with the Mind Expander you will have a directional flex, so slightly different flexes between the nose and the tail along with a profiled V-Core, which means it is slightly softer on the board between your feet, allowing you to maneuver and foot steer easily, while being a little stiffer outside of your feet, giving you that stability so you won't fold and fly over the nose of the board. You're also going to get a progressive side cut on this board, which means starting from the middle of the board as you go towards the tips, the side cut starts to increase

I ride a Jones Mind Expander Twin, and that thing can butter like no other. Can spin and press that board all day long. Wide enough to lay some carves, short sidecut makes it feel quite agile edge to edge despite the width. (The 3D spoon nose/tail help with rolling into edge transitions)

Graduating from my noobie gear after about 20 days of riding last season. Had a 156 Rome rocker/flat/rocker board with a medium flex. I spent those 20 days in size 10 boots for a size 9 foot, so I was dealing with a lot of heal lift and my toes were curling to push onto toe side. I picked up Burton Photons + Step On Genesis and they fit awesome, so that problem is solved. I don't know how to define my style, but I want a board for goofing around on while also being able to expand my reach on the mountain. Right now I feel comfortable enough to go down the blues, but I'm not charging down them yet. Rather, I'm just chilling and going slower so I can really practice turns, spinning, buttering, and switch. I'm embracing learning switch from the get go, so I tend to like the twin shapes. I really just want a good riding foundation going forward so I can hit all the jumps, side hits, and embrace freestyle stuff I guess. I like the warpig for the flat rocker profile that I'm used to, but hesitate since it's directional. Not sure what a camber board feels like by comparison. The Twinpig might do it, but it's cambered and I don't know if that would be good for me and my style. I want something I can grow into, learn on, and get better on. I also looked at the Jones Mountain twin, even the mind expander. I just don't know which direction to go. I'm also staring at the Burton Custom 2023 camber board heavily...it's just so damn pretty. Any help would be great. Money is a non-issue. Just want a good all mountain board that I can continue to improve my skills on for years to come.

Looking at buying a dedicated powder day board for this upcoming season, but can’t decide between a few boards. Was looking at the bataleon party wave, lib orca, or capita slush slasher. Anybody have experience with one or more of these? Don’t do a ton of hardcore carving on groomers, but I do love riding in the trees. Any input is much appreciated!
