com. Welcome to our 2021 ski test videos. Today we're going to talk about the K2 Disruption 78 C. This ski probably won't get as much attention or highlight as some of the other Disruption skis, but it's a fantastic ski and would be a really, really good choice for a wide range of skiers

 So your ski's not bouncing and skipping around and losing contact with the snow surface, even just milliseconds at a time, which you might not see, but you can actually feel. And we also get powerwall sidewall in these skis too, so there's essentially just some extra material underfoot to make them a little bit more stable. There's more to stand on and push against, and it just gives them a really good feel underfoot. Now, by replacing the metal with carbon in these skis, they're lighter, they're less fatiguing, they're a little easier to ski

 So when you're coming out of a carving turn, it's got some nice pop and energy to help you get into the next carving turn. It might not have the power and the super strong, stable feel at speed as the skis with metal, but for a more intermediate skier or even like just an expert skier who doesn't feel like he needs to go 50, 60 miles an hour all over the place, the 78C is a really, really good choice. I have a lot of fun skiing these carbon versions of the Disruptions. I do feel the difference between the two and I wouldn't want to just open it up like crazy at super high speeds down a really steep, icy slope on the 78C, but I think I could and the ski would respond really well

 So we're going to use this visual aid here, which is actually an 82 TI, but the same concept holds true in the 78 C. We're just replacing metal with carbon. So wood core, and then we get carbon I-beam in this ski. So in the ski that I'm holding, this is titanal I-beam, but you can see where it goes and just in your mind, just replace the metal with carbon

Personally, I use the K2 Disruption 78C. Not quite as burly as the metal versions, but holds an edge really well for me.

Hey all,

I'm a late-intermediate/early-advanced skier, looking for some purely frontside/groomer east coast skis. The problem I'm running into is that I'm 6'5" (195cm) and 250 pounds (113kg), and based on my size alone, it doesn't feel like there are pure frontside skis out there that would fit me. 

My daily driver or powder skis for when I go out west are already in the quiver (188 Ripstick black 96/191 Moment DW), so I really don't need something to do anything besides groomers. Traits I'm looking for are something with a slim waist that'll support my frame, that's good for drills, decent at a variety of speeds/turn-radii, and not too unforgiving. 

I've been looking at the following, They're the only ones I feel that even come close:

* Salomon Stance 84 185cm
* Liberty Evolv 84 186cm
* Blizzard Bramha 82 187cm

I honestly can't tell if the list above is too close to free-ride/all-mtn for what I'm trying to get them for, but a lot of the more on-piste oriented skis I've looked into barely reach 180cm. Is 180cm+ just a pipe dream for anything under 80mm waist?

I'm open to any recommendations, just feels like I'm looking for a ski that doesn't exist. Thanks in advance!

Frontside ski for a big guy

 Really great choice for that, you know, intermediate through advanced skier who is looking for something lighter for frontside performance. This is the 177, we get a 17 meter turn radius, so pretty much right in the middle with what you want for, you know, frontside groomer performance. You can let it run, go nice and fast, or you can tighten it up, make short quick turns. The lightness and energy of the carbon certainly help in that regard, getting that ski from edge to edge super quick, so it can do those longer turns as well as the shorter ones, leading to that kind of versatile nature in this 78 millimeter underfoot ski

 One of the things that we've always really liked about these disruption series skis is this shape. You know, they really are making no bones about it, that this is a true frontside ski, you know, very minimal taper and rocker to it. We get the nice camber underfoot, but when we look at the shape, you know, this blunted, flattened out nose, that's strictly business. You know, that widest part of the ski is all the way at the end, so there's really no lag time between when you put your energy into it versus when the edge hooks into the snow

 And then that philosophy is mirrored in the tail as well, so you see that tail just flare right out to the end. No taper, no cutting back into the ski, so that ski is going to hold the edge all the way to the end, so a very long effective edge on this makes for a really smooth feel from tip to tail, top to bottom. Really great choice for that, you know, intermediate through advanced skier who is looking for something lighter for frontside performance. This is the 177, we get a 17 meter turn radius, so pretty much right in the middle with what you want for, you know, frontside groomer performance

 You know, carbon can sometimes feel a little bit pingy, and this polymer really helps smooth it out. We also get power wall underfoot, so this beefed up section of sidewall underfoot, that really boosts the torsional stiffness and edge grip, especially right in the middle of the ski. You know, they really are making no bones about it, that this is a true frontside ski, you know, very minimal taper and rocker to it

[Nov 02, 2021] -- Tuesday Tech: Gear advice, questions, reviews

 Really increases the torsional stiffness of the ski, gives you better grip, again increases that confidence and control when you're in a carve turn. So great job by K2 keeping this thing light and easy to ski. This is the 153 and it does have the binding plate on it to accept the system but it's at 1677 grams so it's not too heavy at all. Super easy to get from edge to edge and then pretty quick turner as well, looking at a 14

 Really just helps you with the initiation of the turn rather than any flotation on the soft snow. And then in the tail, pretty much straight camber throughout, nothing to speak of in the rocker there, just a little minimal splay. But worth pointing out that this tail shape here does kind of keep going out wider and wider until the very end, giving you that edge grip all the way to the tail of the ski. That gives the best possible responsiveness and we see that in the tip as well

 Great women's frontside ski, light, easy to maneuver while still maintaining a really high energy, very good grip on this ski, super confident, great control. If you spend most of your time on groomed terrain and learning to perfect the art of the carve turn, not a whole lot of skis out there are better than this. It's got that wider bodied format which does lead to a little bit more adventurous skiing but for the most part this thing is best suited for frontside performance and groomer skiing. We are built with an Aspen wood core and then we get K2's carbon I-beam

 This ski flex is pretty stiff for something at its level, which does span from that intermediate through advanced range. When we talk about the on-trail capabilities, we've got to talk about the profile. And then we have a nice positive camber here underfoot, as well as just a little bit of tip rocker, really just to get that initiation of the ski up and running. We also have dark matter damping in the front, not the back

 So that's going to hold the edge, you know, from tip to tail about as cleanly as possible. And that's what it's all about on the frontside, is having that metal edge be engaged with the snow for as long as possible. And that really gives the ski its smooth and stable performance. So that's it

 So we start with an Aspen Veneer Wood Core, and then we add their Carbon I-Beam to the mix. So we get full-width carbon underfoot. There's actually a Powerwall sidewall here as well, so that beefed-up sidewall gives you great torsional stiffness in the underfoot area. So full carbon, and then that tapers to a central spine in the front, as well as through the tail of the ski
