 We had to make this the fuzz a singing mid-range type of fuzz, because then we were gonna later on add bass and treble. They're active EQs, something like I saw in the Boss FA-1 or I saw in Boss Metal Zones, things like that. You see these active EQs used? You see different styles. Sometimes you see a very hi-fi one that might exist in a stereo or like the Boss, you know, FA-1

 You got to have three to get the gain up. You got to have a couple silicon transistors to give you that edge, and you have to have a germanium to give you that kind of smooth sound that everyone expects from a good fuzz. What I really liked about this was that we got to add an active EQ to it to give you exaggerated fuzz sounds, and we got to give you a bias control that allows you to shape the tone of the fuzz at any point in time. So that's what makes this fuzz bender special

 It just sounds a little softer and it doesn't break up as much. So that's why we chose to have the first stage with these, you know, very modern transistors so we get the gain up. So there's lots of, you know, velcro fuzz available and then these particular japanese ones sound really good. They're very even, they're very consistent and they allow a good amount of trouble through

In earlier tone benders I worked with, bias control worked differently for each pedal because the transistors just weren't consistent and that's what makes this design really spot on

 Hey, I'm Don Carr and this is the Keeley Fuzzbender. The Fuzzbender is a modern, versatile fuzz that has a wide range of sounds that will take you from smooth to glitchy. It uses a combination of silicone and germanium diodes and it's got a gyrator filter style active EQ with a boost of 20 dB or a cut of 20 dB with a wide Q at 100 Hz and 10 K. It's also got a bias control which takes the attack from smooth to sputtering

After lugging around a board with 17 pedals for a year I decided to really cut down to a mini board

It’s fuzzy!

 So what I'm going to do is solo some of the parts from the track at the beginning of the video outside of the mix. For all the guitar parts, I was running into the clean channel on my Sur PT-15 back there. And for the bass, I was actually using an amp model from UA and running right into my UA Apollo interface. I had an SVT model dialed up and I thought the pedal sounded great in front of the Apollo and the SVT amp sim for bass guitar

 I had a lot of fun with this one, I think it sounds really great, just kind of humongous.
