Kelty Cosmic 20 Degree Series Review

* **Should I get an APEX overquilt to help keep my down quilt dry (and for some added warmth)? Or do you think this is unnecessary?** Considering the Palisade is conservatively rated, I assume I could be comfortable around 25 or opt for huts if it really gets \*that\* cold. My bigger argument for overquilt is that it would help keep my down quilt dry, considering it will go down to freezing point or lower each night.

Used this bag several times now in a range of temperatures so feel I like can give a good review. Probably the best thing about this bag is that, for the price, it comes with DriDown, which resists moisture in humid or damp air (does not prevent your bag from getting soaked if exposed to rain though). Solid bag for late fall camping, but, this is not a 20-degree bag.

 The pocket in the bag is not big enough for my iPhone 7 Plus, really disappointed about that (large phones won't fit). Zipper is often difficult too, bag is not roomy for my 6 foot, 180-pound frame, I am basically at the limit of fitting in this bag and would only recommend the regular size to someone smaller than me. This bag functions adequate for me at a solid price, but I also wouldn't buy it again if I had to get another bag.

 I just knew any lower temperature and I needed to start adding layers to my legs. The "20 degrees" is "you won't die but you'll have a rough night". However, I live in SoCal and also do other trips around the desert, coastal areas, and lower elevation mountains with overnight lows up to the 50's.

r/Ultralight - "The Weekly" - Week of April 11, 2022

 Is a decent value for the money but I'm unsure if it was rated correctly. I will still use this but maybe just in warmer weather.

A little snug and a little cold

The trekology chair. It was easy to put together and surprisingly comfortable. Small and convienent.

 Boiling water very fast. Flames started with no issues. Being able to adjust the flame level is great. The 4flex held the pot find

The naturehike mongar 2. Tent held up really well. It kept me dry. There was some wet spot but thats because of the puddle of water that had build up from the rain

This is just an amateur review. I'm someone who is starting to get into the world of camping. So i can say for sure that these was all newbie friendly to use. It did the job well and I have no complaint

Preparing for motocamping. Wanted to test out the gear in my backyard first.

Nice but not warm

Some other tricks to stay warm: Hot water bottle, eating before bed, short exercise to warm up (don't sweat), beanie.

Best affordable cold weather sleeping bag/pad combo

 Here in arkansas it's only that cold for about a month at night anyway. The price is great as well so it's worth a shot at least, worst case scenario is that you return it

First real bag

I'm working on building out a better cold weather sleep system as winter approaches, and I'm looking for a cold weather bag to upgrade from my ALPS mountaineering 20°F bag from Sierra, which I found to be lackluster in performance and durability on a night that dipped into the high 20s. I wasn't freezing cold but I wasn't comfy warm either. The zipper tore away from the bag for 3 inches from the top. I guess I should have expected that for 50 bucks. I think I could have done better with moisture mitigation. 

*I'm looking for a bag I can take down to 0°F if necessary, but realistically I'll be more often in the mid 20s. 

*I will be camping in an REI quarter dome It's not the best winter tent, but I make it work with pine boughs and careful site placement. I have narrowed down my new pad selection to a few high-r-value options. If low Temps are above the mid 30s I'll probably opt for my hammock underquilt setup. 

*I'm not concerned about weight, as it'll be in a sled behind a snowmobile for most winter trips. However size is a factor, as space is limited and I don't want to deal with a packed bag the size of a spare tire if it can be avoided. It would be nice to have the handier size if I do need to backpack it. I'm open to two smaller warmer weather bags if that makes sense in this scenario, I'm not sure. 

*Price range: up to $350ish but lower is better. I understand at that price range I can't exactly ask the world of a sleeping bag.

*Here's the catch... **I need to be able to buy it from Amazon**. I have acquired a stack of Amazon gift cards through a bonus program at work that I want to spend on camping gear before I blow them on stupid stuff no one needs.
