At roughly half the price of other high-end knives, the Kershaw Leek packs a pedigreed blade into a compact, assisted-opening tool. The blade is made of high-grade steel and comes sharp from the factory. Like the Mini-Barrage's assisted opening, the Leek can be opened with either thumb and can be locked closed. Kershaw has also engineered a tab on the blade's rear that allows you to deploy the blade with your index finger. The blade and handle hold up well for handy carry and light to moderate use. 
The narrow handle profile is the primary compromise with the Leek. Compared to the Mini-Barrage, the Leek is similar in many dimensions, but both the blade and the handle are thinner. Some users will appreciate the lower profile for carrying, though edge and handle thinness requires tradeoffs. The thin blade is excellent for soft and light cutting but can deform in heavy use. We had this happen early in testing. The slim handle doesn't comfortably support heavy pushing. Still, this is a beautiful and functional knife; quality steel at a steal.

I had a Kershaw leek i had lost the safety on and i always preferred to carry it tip up. One time out hunting the blade had opened up in my pocket. Unknowingly reached in to get a bullet and the blade went straight under my fingernail.

 It comes in many different variants, different handle colors, different blade finishes. It is very popular, and it is what I would consider a gateway knife to the EDC community for many people. So moving on to the design. This has a wharncliffe style blade that is hollow ground

9 centimeters. The blade length is right at 3 inches, that's 7.6 centimeters. The closed length is right at 4 inches, that's 10

 This was designed in 2002 by Kent Onion, and it actually won overall Knife of the Year at a blade show, and that was with that Rainbow PBD finish. I'm not sure if you guys remember that, but Kershaw used to have a lot of knives with that rainbow finish. This was not the first knife with the SpeedSafe technology, but it has definitely popularized it. So this is what I would consider an iconic knife for sure

 That is a lot. Between the brazen pocket clip and the speedsafe (which could be intimidating to non-knife carriers), this design just doesn't seem quite sure where it fits into things in terms of whether it is people-friendly or not. Possibly the biggest issue with the blade, in my opinion.  3

 Mine, which is the steel frame-lock version, clocked in at 3 ounces exactly. The handle is a super-slender 5/16" thick without the pocket clip, and the handle is slightly less than 1" wide at the widest point (with the blade closed).  Usage Rating: Light  There's going to be some debate here. I put this in the light usage category, for three reasons

 Thin blade - The blade thickness is 0.090", which is the same as a Delica 4, but it tapers quickly and gets dramatically thinner well before the tip of the knife. While this does help the knife with slicing performance, the trade off is strength. The fairly steep secondary bevel makes for a razor-sharp edge

Really nice light / gentleman's EDC. Not really suited for the woods.

  Nice looking, sturdy medium duty blade. Nice and sharp out of the box and easy to resharpen when needed. Small to easily carry in a pocket. Useful for many every day tasks requiring something sharp

I don’t have the money to spend on a expensive and nicer knife as much as I would like to and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for knives I should look at. I am looking at Amazon but I don’t like buying a knife I can’t hold first without much prior knowledge.

Advice from more experienced knife owners

. I'd say the highest reveal of all my EDC pocket knifes with about 1 1/4" of shiny silver exposed which seems extreme compared with the low-pro SOG clips. * To unlock the opened blade, your thumb must cross the sharp blade path. We're good at this by now, right? Be careful

 I opened a box of fruit and sliced through several edibles... it's sharp and pointy blade is effective

 I just need a better grip on my 'work' knife)  It is what it is and that's a very fine blade - MADE IN USA - for casual EDC. For the common tasks, good looks, and amazing mechanics you can't beat the quality for price here on Amazon.

 basically, as all blades under close inspection are serrated, the factory technique can use some polishing but comes wicked sharp.  I enjoy carrying and using this blade. My comments would be: * It's not for wet hands. It takes a firm pinching grip between thumb and fingers while activating blade

  The 1660 is fast to open and cuts cleanly out of the box - SHARP~! It's sharp due to the factory sharpening method which is micro-serrations.. basically, as all blades under close inspection are serrated, the factory technique can use some polishing but comes wicked sharp.  I enjoy carrying and using this blade
