Issues with quality control on the crocks

 I "assumed" this would NOT be made in China, but alas; it is. :(  One of the greatest things the fire service has done in the USA since 1947 has been to create a fire prevention system, complete with laws, rules and regulations for the prevention of fires. This extends into every appliance that has electrical wiring. Well, at least those made in and under the fire prevention codes of the USA

 It seems to work; but, what's going on inside this appliance with the wiring? Is it safe? Well, I'm really not certain. Time will tell, I suppose. I can say this about that. I don't intend to leave this appliance plugged in and turned on, unattended

. Isn't it???  So far, this appliance smells like a "house afire" when plugged in and turned on. It seems to work; but, what's going on inside this appliance with the wiring? Is it safe? Well, I'm really not certain. Time will tell, I suppose

Kitchen Aid - Made in China!

 Crock pots should last longer than 4 years. I have a different brand that I have had for 25 years and it still heats and works properly. Honestly, I would not go with this brand again.

 The lid does not sit good and seal on the crockery. Lid is flat but the crockery shape causes teetering and loose fit. Not their best effort.

 I am not sure why the 'Cook's Illustrated' people would think potatoes would go from raw to cooked in 8 hours at 204˚ ? In my experience red potatoes need a higher temp than 204˚. Although maybe 12 hours of cooking at 204˚ would do the trick?

 I think the Highest Setting on most Slow-Cookers should be above boiling, probably around 230˚ at least, esp. if one expects raw cut-up potatoes to be completely cooked within five hours.  So I would rec'd this KitchenAid model with reservations. Most braising recipes using a traditional porcelain-over-iron braising dish require oven temperatures between 275˚ to 325˚ depending on the recipe, but these recipe's cooking times are mostly listed anywhere from 2 hours to 6 hours. This means I have had to pull this KitchenAid's the porcelain container out of the cooker and put it in a traditional oven heated to 325˚ on some occasions when I needed a higher temp to complete the cooking on some food, usu. for 45 min

 Using my instant read thermometer after a couple of hours the temperature was 170 degrees and after 7 hours it was 185 degrees. One of the articles I read said the heat will slowly rise in a slow cooker so this made sense but it never got so hot that it started to boil, which is exactly what we are looking for. So far so good and since I haven’t cooked in it yet I couldn’t give it 5 stars but it looks very promising.

 We use it for such foods as Spaghetti Meat Sauce, Chili, nothing very fancy but like to let it cook for 8 to 10 hours on low. The cheaper new one I purchased had my wife very concerned because even on low her chili was really bubbling almost to a boil after just a few hours. After some research I discovered many of the new Slow Cookers run very hot even on low. However the reviews from some test kitchens stated this Slow Cooker actually does run at a low temperature on low, just like some of the older units so thought I would give this one a try
