The KitchenAid K150 is the best kitchen blender for under $200 that we've tested. This blender has a very sturdy-feeling motor base with metal gears. It's straightforward, without many extra features, but it comes with a two-part lid for the jar, meaning you can add ingredients mid-blend.

Using the 48-ounce main jar, it makes smooth, spreadable almond butter and bar quality crushed ice. You can use it to process hot ingredients for soups and sauces. The dial gives you access to three different preset speeds as well as a dedicated pulse/ice crush program. It's not overly tall with the jar in place on the motor base, so it should fit on your counter under a cabinet. The jars, lids, and blades are all dishwasher-safe as well.

Unfortunately, it doesn't come with a tamper for stirring your recipe. It doesn't fully liquefy fibrous ingredients in smoothies, so if you add something like kale, the result may have a grainy texture. It also only comes with one jar, unlike many full-size blenders that come with personal jars that produce better-blended smoothies. You can separately purchase accessories like a tamper and personal jars from KitchenAid.

If you don't use your blender every day or want a budget-friendly option, look at the KitchenAid K400. This blender looks like a smaller version of the KitchenAid K400 and doesn't have as much power, but it's still quite versatile. It also has a smaller 48-ounce capacity, but unless you plan to blend drinks for a party, it'll be big enough for most recipes. It has a good build quality and is small and light for a full-size blender, which is nice if you want to store it in a cupboard. &Beta;lends like broccoli soup or kale smoothies take a little longer to process than a more expensive model like the KitchenAid K400, but it can still power through tough ingredients to make a smooth blend. It's an excellent ice crusher and fairly easy to use to make thicker mixtures like hummus or nut butter.

There are only three preset speed settings, so you don't have a lot of options for fine-tuning the speed. There's a two-part lid for the jar to help with adding ingredients mid-blend, but no tamper is included. Like the K400, it's not the easiest to clean by hand, but the jar and lid are dishwasher-safe. It also comes in several colors, which is a little unusual for a blender. Keep in mind that some color options are more expensive. If you're looking for a cheaper blender, the Oster Pro 1200 is usually available for less than $100. It performs similarly and even comes with a personal jar for smoothies. However, its mediocre build quality is a major downside.

The best blender in the budget range we've tested is the KitchenAid K150. This full-size blender has a relatively small, lightweight design, so it's a good choice for cramped kitchens. It's very well-built and isn't very noisy when it's running. The 48-ounce main jar is on the small side but has a very versatile performance. It can make smooth broccoli soup and silky smoothies with tough ingredients like kale and frozen fruit. Even though it doesn't come with a personal jar, it's easy to use for single-serve recipes. You can blend hot ingredients for soup or sauce directly from the pan, and the 2-part lid makes it simple to add ingredients mid-blend.

It doesn't come with a tamper, so if you want to stir your ingredients, you have to stop the blender and remove the lid.
