My very amateur review of the JBL L100 Classic speakers.

When you are married and you are adding a stereo to the living room, your wife's approval is required, even when she is as much into the hobby as you are. Last month, my wife changed the living room completely, adding an 80's vibe to it. She spent hours researching a new set of speaker, new speakers with an old-looking design that sounded great, after all, it needed to match the new decor.

The two final contenders were Klipsch heresy iv and the JBL L100 Classic. I watched and read many reviews on these two speakers and decided to go with the JBL. I went to the local dealer and auditioned a set. I was not impressed but the wife wanted them and I was aware that the equipment being used at the store was not ideal to really showcase these speakers as they didn't sound at all like the online reviews reported. I took a chance and I bought them. These are amazing speakers. I connected them to a Mcintosh MC275-V and they really came alive. Amazing sound stage, the woofer produces good bass but not enough to overpower the other drivers, just a nice balance. These speakers give you that feeling that you are watching the band live. They are easy to drive, at "3" or "4" out of "10" on the volume knob is loud enough to fill the room, I have not gone past that volume as it would be too loud for my listening preferences. My last two points are, the speakers come with 2 knobs in the front that allow you to adjust the tweeter and mid-range. With my present room setup, I find that the "neutral" setting works best. Also, we selected the orange grills for our set (blue and black also available), these are for decoration purposes only, as far as I am concern, as it completely muffles the sound.

JBL L100 Classic review - My amateur review.

 I won't go into detail about the technical differences between the III's and IV's beyond mentioning that the latter are rear ported and the former are a sealed box. The IV's bass is tight and punchy like the III's, but also a tad deeper due to the rear port. The IV's mids and upper frequencies seem a BIT more detailed than the III's, but sound brighter to my ears. Also, in my opinion only, the IV's cherry veneer does not match the III's quality and appearance

 After better than 6 months of comparison I sold the IV's (got close to what I paid) and kept the III's. The III's just sound more "balanced" to my ears. New and improved doesn't always mean better. Live and learn

You could wear these all day and barely notice. But they are aggressively technical headphones, and if you're looking for this sound they are good value for what they go for second hand.

It would be great to know like conversion rates or something: like a Grand Seiko Snowflake = a turntable and a preamp or something, or  a Tudor Black Bay 58 became a pair of speakers and some crossovers.

Watch collector stuck in my home office for a year with bare wrists. Randomly found this subreddit, took the red pill, and sold part of my collection to try this HIFI thing out. Thank you /r/audiophile, for helping my neighbors more intimately understand "Il Triello"!

 I suspected at the time the Heresy needs some breathing room because of the rear port and the height needs to raised up a few inches.  So I took them home and put them on dolly to add some height, leave them some breathing room from the wall. They sounded very natural from the get go with nice image and there are plenty of base to go around, no needs for a sub. With the raised height my ears told me they can match the well used Forte in terms of open feels

 The base and vocals, as my wife like to put it, married, as compare with the run of the mills spkrs that relies on sub to help and sounded much more musical and realistic.  I am pushing them with two Marantz monoblocks with tube buffered the phono/CD/Blue Tooth 4.0 and running burn in tracks from YouTube. It should open up the sound stage a lot more but that will take time

 The Heresy IV is almost new, just a few hours usage. The Forte sounded more open and La Scala blown everything away ‘cause it’s a total different class. The Heresy wasn’t bad at all but a little short of the other two at the audition. Amp used was a Yamaha Receiver with Forte and Heresy and a Yamaha DAC for the La Scala

 They sounded very natural from the get go with nice image and there are plenty of base to go around, no needs for a sub. Klipsch Heresy IV speakers. It sings. It really does. It blew away any expectations I had, and I felt mine were high

Having trouble finding good info on adding a sub to my setup. Details in comment.

 What use to be acceptable is now sub par when compared to a Hi Fidelity source. I have a 1.2 Meg bitrate sample of Led Zeppelin II album. Play that loud and John Paul Jones will kick you in the chest

 To make them sound even better I removed the angle base on the bottom of the speaker and placed them on 18 inch end tables. Found some metal end tables at Home Depot for $50 each. I also Bi-amped the speakers to a 11 channel Denon receiver (140 watts per channel). In stereo mode only the Heresy IVs and sub woofers are enabled

 I would buy them again. One bad/good? thing is I can really notice the difference in sound sources. What use to be acceptable is now sub par when compared to a Hi Fidelity source. I have a 1

 They sound better everyday and I'm not positive I have my receiver and speakers calibrated perfectly. I have used the software that came with the receiver to automatically calibrate, but when I put it in stereo mode and play straight through it sounds much better. I think the solution is to calibrate it again with just the stereo speakers. I have four save modes (setups) I should use them

Recently got the lp120 TT and have been using it with my computer speakers via RCA to aux which are the bose companions that has a sub ([these](https://www.bose.com/en_us/support/products/bose_speakers_support/bose_docking_and_computer_support/companion3_series2.html)). Now, these are surprisingly quite good in terms of audio quality (at least to my noob ears) however I'm looking for more...I'm looking at getting the JBL 305p MKII speakers to get more out of my TT. I know this might be a bit of overkill but I'd like to know if anyone knows if I'll be able to use my bose sub with the JBL speakers? What equipment (amp, dac, etc.) do  I need to get started with these speakers in terms of connecting to both my TT and computer and for best audio experience?

Just for more context, it's in a medium to small sized bedroom(NYC apartment), TT is about 6 feet behind me and my setup is at my computer hence why I feel the bose actually sound good/fine

Hey all! I am in the market for some multi-use studio/desktop nearfield monitors. I have been doing a ton of research and I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t heading down the wrong path as this will be my first set of studio monitors. I have always been a headphone guy, but with my job now being from home forever, I find wearing headphones for 8+ hours a day fatiguing a bit. Hoping some monitors will help with that.

For use cases, it’s definitely a mixed bag. I am a full time video editor, so I do prefer fairly accurate sound for mixing various speech, music, and foley layers. I also listen to a ton of music, ranging from hip-hop and pop to rock and country. I play video games and watch movies on my computer a fair bit too, but that isn’t a massive priority of mine. 
I currently run my headphones and mics through a UMC404HD so I was planning on hooking up the monitors to those with balanced cables. 

All in all, I am looking to spend around $400-$600 for a pair, MAYBE a little bit more if it is truly worth it. After doing a lot of looking around, I came to the following list, but it seems like there really isn’t a clear choice? Was hoping someone might be able to chime in and offer opinions, experiences, or recommendations that might be useful. Thank you!

I am finally getting a desktop speaker setup and have settled on the KEF Q150's (once they go back on sale) and am currently deciding on an amp. Would the Emotiva BasX A-100 be sufficient to drive these in a home office or should I go for their X-150 or X-300 offerings? Also are there any other amps in that price range that could give the Emotivas a run for their money?

My current setup is PC Optical -> Schiit Modi Multibit -> Magni 3 -> HD600- I plan to use the Modi/ Magni as a preamp if that helps the advice at all.

However, I’m at a loss to find a good amplifier for my heresy that I will also be able to power a subwoofer with eventually. Does anyone have some suggestions? I really don’t want to spend more than 1k if not less on the amp for these two as I’d rather have a cheaper solution for a year and then buy an AHB2.

Had a few questions about bookshelves..

Current setup is 5.1 (need to buy smaller furniture to do 7.1.. but thats another topic lol)

This is also a HTPC (home theater PC) rig. It does gaming, movies, shows etc.

AVR: Yamaha RX-V581 --- Planning to upgrade soon once more HDMI 2.1 ones are out.

I own no amp, and do not want to get 1, as I have no space in setup for it. (tv stand)

Room is roughly 162 sq ft

Due to space, I've been considering getting the Polk L100 or L200 models. (once I find a decent sale price. over 1,000 for bookshelves is a hard pill to swallow)

My question is, due to better tweeters and design, would putting the L100 or L200's up front replacing the S55's be a wise choice? In my head it is, but I'm not a professional. I feel despite smaller it won't make much difference midrange due to the subwoofer handling the heavy bass lifting as is. The tweeter should be better and have wider range as well it seems.

Would the 1 inch-ish size difference between the L100 and L200 make a big difference since I use a dedicated subwoofer? Worth the price hike?

Also, I notice the Legendary line from polk (L100 included) have a 4 ohm impedance. Not sure if my AVR would handle them well?

The S55's I would most likely move to use as rears or sides. Would save me having to buy stands for some surround speakers that way.

Edit: Looks like Yamaha is the 1st to have multiple HDMI 2.1 inputs so my AVR will be upgraded eventually to the Yamaha RX-V6A (after firmware updates to be sure VRR etc works as intended

<p>F L/R Polk S55&#39;s.
AVR: Yamaha RX-V581 --- Planning to upgrade soon once more HDMI 2.1 ones are out.</p>

<p>I own no amp, and do not want to get 1, as I have no space in setup for it. (tv stand)</p>

<p>Room is roughly 162 sq ft</p>

<p>Due to space, I&#39;ve been considering getting the Polk L100 or L200 models. (once I find a decent sale price. over 1,000 for bookshelves is a hard pill to swallow)</p>

<p>My question is, due to better tweeters and design, would putting the L100 or L200&#39;s up front replacing the S55&#39;s be a wise choice? In my head it is, but I&#39;m not a professional. I feel despite smaller it won&#39;t make much difference midrange due to the subwoofer handling the heavy bass lifting as is. The tweeter should be better and have wider range as well it seems.</p>

<p>Would the 1 inch-ish size difference between the L100 and L200 make a big difference since I use a dedicated subwoofer? Worth the price hike?</p>

<p>Also, I notice the Legendary line from polk (L100 included) have a 4 ohm impedance. Not sure if my AVR would handle them well?</p>

I see that this sub recommends the JBL 305p MkII for the best studio monitor pair under $300.  Since those are rear ported and my setup is against a wall I don’t think they are the best choice.  I was looking for a better option and I found the Kali Audio LP-6s.  They seem to be the better choice because they are front ported and have larger woofers. What are your thoughts on the LP-6?  Any other monitors you would recommend in this price range?

Help needed with system

Hey lads, how’re you doing? 

I’m in need of help, I can’t seem to figure it out. 

I currently own a “project debut 2” turntable which runs by RCA to a “Cambridge Audio A3” Amp, which works fine. The issue comes with connecting that to my speakers, which are “Presonus Eris E5” digital speakers. Is there a way in which I can convert the speaker wire to a digital format? XLR or RCA?
