Our biggest complaint about the Krups GQ502D is that it takes longer to heat up and cook than other smaller machines. We typically found ourselves leaving the waffles on the machine for an extra minute or two past when the beeps indicated finished waffles. We also found that they don't cook as evenly as we would have liked them to, with the waffles' edges becoming much more done than the centers. If you have a large family and need to churn out lots of waffles very quickly, these are small sacrifices to make, but in any other instance, we'd suggest a smaller, round machine instead.

 The best thing we found to do is make the waffles, freeze them and then when we want one put them in the toaster oven for a few minutes. AND finally..

 I will start with the CONS: the handle gets extremely hot, the buzzer is really loud, the waffles take longer to cook than the timer says. You lose a lot of heat when the top is opened, the waffles are removed, non-stick oil/butter is used, then new batter poured in. The devices takes that much longer to heat up but the timer doesn't seem to notice so the buzzer goes off and your waffles aren't done. The waffles are not crispy on the outside and soft in the center, they are soft all over

 We make waffles just about every other Saturday morning and have had this maker for 8 months and the plates are oxidizing or something. This photo of my hands is right after I pulled them from the dishwasher to put them back into the maker for storing away.

This waffle iron does what it's supposed to do but we bought it specifically because of the removable Dishwasher safe grid plates. Tired of scraping waffle bits and overflow out of the crevices of our old maker, this was supposed to offer the easy cleanup we were dreaming of.   I had it replaced under warranty, which was nice, but now the replacement waffle maker is doing the same thing.  There seems to be a design defect with this waffle maker that causes the beeper to go bad, probably due to moisture from the steam.

Really nice waffle maker, while it lasts.

The waffle iron itself works well, but when I washed the plates in the dishwasher the metal on the back of the plates had a strange chemical reaction. See photos attached. Not sure if it is safe to use them any longer.

Don’t wash plates in the dishwasher!

Handle gets too hot during cooking process making it unsafe to open without using potholder during second batch. This was good at making waffles, but not taking a burn risk for younger kids or other adults.
