 This is a review of the LaCrosse Technology Charger BC-1000. The product comes with a nice nylon carrying bag. What is included is four D-cell adapters, four C-cell adapters, four AA batteries, four AAA batteries, the LaCrosse battery charger and the AC wall power supply. This is a review of the LaCrosse BC-1000 battery charger and here you can see it's plugged in and the display displays NULL, N-U-L-L, indicating that no batteries are in place

 Rechargable batteries are relatively cheap, on sale even Eneloops are around $2.00 each. How many do you need/have? Say 12 or 24 AA batteries? Spending $50+ on equipment to charge those batteries is not really a rational thing to do. Even if a dumb charger makes your rechargeable last 4 years, instead of say 8+ (very dubious) it would probably be cheaper for you NOT to buy an expensive charger like this

Overpriced, TERRIBLE interface, buggy. Peddled by bloggers wanting commission for expensive products

 But what I can address is the guaranteed longevity, which the lack of support renders nil.  I hope that my BC1000 lasts, but I won't be buying another. I might try the Powerex I mentioned as a second charger to use in anticipation of a blackout. We've had three over the five years I've lived in my current apartment, so it's best to be prepared

Customer Service and Batteries Negligible; Batteries without Residual Charge Won't Charge at All

 But in my opinion it is an over price re-branded cheap Chinese Battery Charger. Yes I know all of our electronics come from China and I have bought hundreds of items directly from China and the price is about 1/2. I have owned dozens of battery chargers over the years and this one for the money really doesn't show me that there is that much benefit to it based upon it's cost versus other lower priced chargers. Also the cheap La Crosse tech NIMH Batteries are junk

A: You may want to invest in a small charger/holder that will bring the battery back above 0.9v when  attached for 20-30 seconds. Then charge the battery in our charger

"Let me make sure that I'm being perfectly clear, I bought from you for around $70 a battery charger that came with 8 rechargeable batteries, with the name of your company printed on them. This isn't the worlds biggest deal for me, as I will be using this charger with other batteries as well, but it's pretty poor customer service. Also considering I will be reviewing this device on Amazon where I bought it, a bad review for the sake of one battery that likely costs you $2 or less

 This is true of all rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries.  Charge all new rechargeable batteries before using. If one battery seems to lose charge faster than the other batteries use it under load and charge it several times then use the discharge/refresh cycle with the battery." Tough review

I've owned this charger for less than a week so I may not be completely accurate on the reliability of this charger. This review is based on the initial look and use. Since I also own a MAHA C9000, I am also going to compare it.  Pros: -Compact: Compared to the C9000, this charger was smaller than I anticipated, even after looking at comparison photos of the BC-900/9009 and the C9000

 If I press the Mode button at the wrong time after plugging it in, the charger won't select the different modes and would start the default charge.  -Build Quality: To be blunt, it is cheap. When I first picked up the charger, the two halves of the charger, when squeezed hard enough, separated slightly. The buttons also feel pretty cheap

  *Update 1 - 01/03/2012* I just wanted to update that the Break-In of the AA batteries that came with it resulted in capacities of 2177mAh, 2119mAh, 2057mAh, and 2155mAh. This is lower than the advertised 2600mAh. Good charger, but not the best IMO

This charger definitely has quirks but it's probably the best one available. I say that because the nearest competitor, theMaha Powerex Wizard One MH-C9000 Advanced Battery Charger and Analyzer - Deluxe Accessory Storage Case Included requires a lot more button presses to get it to do what you want. Also, as near as I can tell that model does not have a mode where you can discharge the batteries and automatically charge them afterwards. This La Crosse one can do that in addition to being a smaller unit and having a more streamlined interface

Great battery charger once you learn the quirks

 This manual really challenged the first Cisco router manual I dealt with in the 1980s. But then I was not retired and had to take time to understand. I also had had experience installing Proteon Routers. Today retired, also male and reading instructions is not in my genes

 As I tell friends a cheap bad meal is more expensive than expensive great meal. This BC-1000 is great charger. I recommend reeading several of the reviews on Amazon as very good and did provide guidance to me. I

Works great!

90 mAh # 4-------3:10 h---198 mA--1.46 v---617 mAh  I unplugged the charger and removed the batteries and tested them again with the other tester. Again, roughly the same charge on all four batteries. I again plugged in the LaCrosse charger and re-inserted the AAA batteries making sure that the batteries went in the same compartments as before
