The La Crosse Technology C85845-1 offers numerous features at a steal of a price. The sleek and streamlined display features a fun forecast icon that is easy to decipher. Meanwhile, the sensor reports all the basic info along with the dew point and heat index. Both the sensor and the console are equally intuitive to set up. Additionally, the sensor temperature and wireless detection range are precise, especially for a mid-range station.  
The downside to this budget model is fewer features. This station won't report the wind speed and doesn't have a rain gauge. We also found the temperature reading to sometimes be off by a degree or two. That said, all the models have a temperature range accuracy that varies. The C85845-1 is a solid station for those who want to localize their forecast without spending top dollar.

I received a  defective"La Crosse C85845" !

 The indoor temperature and humidity is just about spot-on so no problem there. The "Forecast" square is always solidly true.  The station does keep excellent time. I set the time according to the NIST clock and having compared it to the same nearly three weeks later, it's still spot-on

Overall a good product, with a couple of flaws

 So buyer beware - you ONLY need to buy the station as it comes with its own external sensor.  For performance, the sensor seems to read about 2 degrees cooler than the station (I'm guessing maybe heat generated by the station?), and about 5% difference in humidity. Not super accurate, but good enough for a rough understanding of temperature differences.  The automatic integration with the atomic clock signal is fantastic

 Bad viewing angles when looking at it from the left and from below. Have to mount it correctly to make sure you can see it.  Sensor has good signal strength about 40 feet away.  The package contained no mounting screws, which is unfortunate

The basic unit comes with a sensor. Do not buy the station + sensor package being sold!

Battery backup problem.  It's crazy to have to reset time, date, etc. every time power goes out.

 Outdoor sensor doesn't seem weather proof, there is a separate weather shield (or you can mount it in a rain/sun shielded location). The manual is minimal, mostly adequate but some things require fairly easy guessing (or a visit to their web sites). The weather forecast icons are driven by atmospheric pressure measurements which take up to 10 days to self-calibrate (not bad, just be aware). On the plus side, temperature and humidity readings seem accurate and the weather station design is very good, with control buttons on top where they are easy to reach

The one thing I recommend is to be sure to keep your outdoor unit in a place away from the sun, or like any thermometer, you'll get an inaccurate reading due to sunlight raising the temperature. Other than that, don't hesitate to buy this little unit. You're going to love it

Best desktop temperature unit I've ever used!

 If you hang it on the wall don’t put it too high. Because it won’t get an accurate inside temperature reading. As I discovered because the heat rises and it reads warmer then it really is. And the screen really should come with an anti glare screen or screen protector

Works very well the only thing is you have to be a eye level to see it. As you can see in the first picture. The second picture I had to prop it up so it would stand up straight. Otherwise you can’t see it if it’s on an angle
