 so we have these these flex areas. It helps with the cushioning but also means it helps with the traction as well. By having this this kind of wave shape pattern on the bottom, we use the Friction Blue which is our more durable, more resistant version. So the final weight of the shoe comes down to 219 grams for a size 42 and it has a four millimeter drop from the back to the front

 We change the the lacing from the the number two version and here we have a traditional lacing which gives as much adjustability as as everybody would need. So the midsole of the Helios 3 it has the multi dynamic midsole and so that's the wave pattern you see here. and it's a knee VA It gives a lot of comfort and it also allows us to actually save a lot of weight in this shoe because by having the wave pattern it helps with the cushioning. but it also means we can reduce the amount of heavy rubber that you normally would need in the shoe

La Sportiva Helios III at OutDoor by ISPO - Summer 2020

Way back, I was a huge Saucony fan. The Peregrine 5 was my go to for running, hiking, backpacking. It has the gaiter clips, decent stiffness, solid tread. The following iterations were hugely disappointing to me. I got the impression that the Peregrine was trying to be a road running shoe. 

I went to Salomon for a couple years, and was never really satisfied with any of their shoes. 

I met a really experienced backpacker on the trail who raved about his ultra raptors. So, back in the real world, I bought a pair. I'm now on my 5th pair, running, hiking and backpacking. 
The only adjustment I've made is upsized a half size to mitigate the black toenail thing. I'd go a full size but REI doesn't sell 48....

Anyway, I have a soft spot for the Peregrine, and the ST pushes all the right buttons. Don't think I'm going to abandon La Sportiva, but it would be cool to have an alternative.

<p>I&#39;m currently doing all my running with a 20 pound pack my back, at times holding the leash of my unpredictable cattle dog running partner. I take comforting the &quot;beefiness&quot; of the ultra raptors to keep me out of trouble.....</p>

I need ankle support.  If I'm going to be doing some sort of active work,  i usually wear 8 or 10 eye docs, but I'm not willing to demote any of those to full time work boots, and the toe wear on them is already  telling me they wouldn't last long. 



Fashion sense isn't important on these. I plan on leaving them at work for when I need them.  I just need ankle support and toes that won't wear out running on carpet.  Rather just go on and invest in a good pair now; I'll need them for another upcoming office move soon.

Women's work boot recommemdations

 I tried Lowa this round. So I will see how many years they last. The Swiss swear by La Sportiva for its resoling.

Discovered that I had $240 in REI dividends today, so my Salomon 4D 3 GTX and Darn Tough merino wool socks came out to just $9!!! Happy deal hunting everyone!

I’m having a very difficult time finding my ideal shoe. I wouldn’t call myself a runner, per se, however I have 1000s of trail miles as an avid backpacker, almost entirely in Merrell Trail Gloves and Vapor Gloves on rocky SW trails.  I stopped wearing trail gloves after the fourth version because they changed it too far from my liking, and I just ran out of my stock. 

I have since switched to my vapor gloves exclusively, which make my feet sore long before I’m ready to be done on the trail.  I have been running lately in preparation for a 10 mile race in support of my partner…. The front of my heels feel like they’ve been hit with a hammer, particularly after running a technical downhill and feeling that occasional heel strike.

Because of this, today I went to a running store and walked out with Altra Lone Peaks.  I was skeptical of the rock plate and 25 mm stack, but they assured me they are considered minimalist for running shoes.  Unfortunately, I just went for a quick run and they don’t work for me. It feels like my feet have fallen asleep. I have zero ground feel, I’m not confident in my foot placement.  My feet feel like they are sloshing around in rain boots and I rolled my ankle more than once in 2
miles.  Could I get used to them? Probably, but I prefer my Trail Glove 4.  I feel defeated.  

I like ground feel, I like to feel where I am stepping and what I am stepping on, I just don’t want my feet to hurt FIRST on a 10 mile run.  I’m looking for a running shoe that doesn’t feel like I’m wearing moon boots.  Does it exist?

<p>Update:  I just ordered Xero Mesas, which seems to be the only option with ~10mm stack height, no arch support, zero drop, and no rock plate.  Thanks for the help.</p>

Not shoes related, but just wondering what running pants the sub would recommend? 

I’ve found that using some smart wool socks has been fine for keeping my running shoe rotation going in the winter, and I have my top layering is sorted out, but I can’t quite find a pair of winter running pants I really like. 

Typically run in Nike Phenom knits with a pair of tight underneath if it’s really cold. Has anyone found a “must have” pair of bottoms for the coldest winter months?

Winter Running Pants - Canadian Winter Tier

Does anybody have any tips on lower stack flexible trail running shoes with a secure fit? My favorite road shoes for longer runs is the saucony kinvara 11 because of how flexible it is and it allows my foot to strike more naturally while still being fairly cushioned, so something with a similar feel would be optimal, I've been eyeing some Salomon offerings like the sense 4 pro and ultra pro, what would you guys suggest? I'm in an area where there's a lot of roots on the trails and they can be pretty wet if that helps narrow it down.

Tips on flexible trail shoes

Recently I've been enjoying a 12km loop that takes me on some really nice trails in my area. Problem is, it's about 50/50 on pavement or kind of easy to moderate trail. I'm a massive fan of my endorphin speeds but there's no way I'd use them here. I've been slogging it out with my old Brooks glycerins which are okay but it's time to step it up I think.
