The Lenovo ThinkVision M14 is the best portable monitor for the MacBook Pro that we've tested if you're looking for a display to use on the go. Although you won't get a large screen, the 14 inch screen is small enough to carry around, almost like you're bringing a second laptop with you, just not as heavy.

The 1080p resolution results in a high pixel density, and the text looks very sharp. It has two USB-C inputs that you can use to power the monitor and display an image from it; you can connect it to a USB-C power source, and since it has a power passthrough, you can charge your MacBook Pro and display an image at the same time. The monitor comes with a kickstand that supports the screen and lets it tilt, but other than that, the ergonomics are limited. It's also fairly well-built, so you shouldn't have to worry about damaging it in your bag.

Sadly, the picture quality on most portable monitors isn't anything special. It doesn't support HDR, has limited Adobe RGB coverage, and has a slow response time that makes motion look blurry. Also, it doesn't get very bright, but it has decent reflection handling. If you're going to use it as a secondary display on the go, it's a great choice for the MacBook Pro.

If you're looking for something cheaper, the Lenovo ThinkVision M14 offers good value as a mid-range portable monitor. It's very similar to the Dell C1422H, with the main difference being that it's a step down in performance in a few areas, which is what you can expect if you want something cheaper. The main difference is that it doesn't have the same excellent accuracy as the Dell, so images don't look as life-like, but the overall picture quality is still good enough to use as a secondary display.

<p>EDIT: Got the Asus ZenScreen and it works 1000% exactly as what I needed. 1 cable, usb-c into my X1E and I have a second screen. Portable, light, and comes with a screen protector that doubles as a stand. </p>

Great display, with one minor gripe

So know I cannot simply daisy-chain two external monitors together by running one USB-C cable from a laptop to monitor 1, and then another USB-C cable from monitor 1 to monitor 2. I need either multiple USB-C ports on my laptop, or a DST hub. But how about for power ONLY? If the laptop port supports sufficient wattage for two monitors, could I theoretically run one USB-C to monitor 1 (where it would also get power), run another USB-C from monitor 1 to 2 (supplying power ONLY via monitor 1), and then an alternate video cable (let's say DisplayPort) from the laptop to monitor 2?

Daisy-Chain POWER to Second Monitor via USB-C?

If only they had told me......

I got the approval from my manager to remain remote for the rest of 2021, and I feel like it's finally time I took advantage of it.  Besides 2-3 zoom meetings a week, I spend 95% of my work time doing software development...which I've mostly done from my apartment since the beginning of the pandemic.  I did take advantage of being able to travel since I've gotten the vaccine and have spent 2-3 weeks with family, but I find my productivity dramatically decreases even if I find a quiet place, because all I've got is my mouse and my big external monitor and standing desk are gone (not to mention my very nice ergonomic chair), all paid for by my work.

I plan on joining some friends in Honolulu for for about a month, and then after that potentially hopping around Airbnbs maybe in San Diego, LA, visiting family in Florida, etc. basically spending 1-2 months at a time max in any given place.  
If you're a programmer, have you adjusted to non-ideal ergonomic situations while traveling, or do you have some steps you take to improve it?  I would like to avoid having to straight up rent a desk at a coworking space as that could potentially be pricy.
