The LG 27GL650F-B is a good alternative if you want something bigger in a 27 inch screen size. Unlike the Acer Nitro XF243Y Pbmiiprx, this monitor isn't as versatile for the office because it has disappointing ergonomics as the stand offers no swivel adjustment, making it harder to turn your screen to show someone else.

It has lower pixel density, but the text clarity is still decent. It's also limited on many extra features as it lacks built-in speakers or a USB hub, but that's normal for a display under $200. Luckily, if you want it to also game on the side, it's great because it has a quick response time at its max refresh rate of 144Hz, but while it's still good at 60Hz, there's a bit of motion blur.

The best monitor available under $200 that we've tested is the LG 27GL650F-B. It's a good monitor that's versatile for different uses, and unlike most displays in this price range, it has a large 27-inch screen which is good if you like the extra screen space. While its 1080p resolution isn't the highest, this is what you can expect for something in this price range, and the text clarity is still decent. It's good for office work because it gets bright enough to fight glare in well-lit rooms, and the reflection handling is decent.

The picture quality is also good because it displays a wide range of colors in SDR and has great accuracy before calibration. It supports HDR, unlike many monitors in this price range, but it can't display a wide range of colors, and colors don't look vivid. If you want to use it for gaming, it also has a 144Hz refresh rate, variable refresh rate (VRR) support, and a fast response time for smooth motion.

While the Dell S2721QS offers great value for its cost, there are some cheaper options you can get for a low cost, like the LG 27GL650F-B, which is a good cheap 27-inch monitor. If you don't want to spend a ton of money on a monitor, you'll have to give up a few features and get something with a lower resolution, which is the case with the LG. Its 1080p resolution isn't ideal if you want the best text clarity possible, but it's still decent and good enough for office work. It also has great peak brightness and decent reflection handling for use in a well-lit room.

Unlike the Dell, it's designed as a gaming monitor with great performance as it has a higher 144Hz refresh rate with a quick response time and low input lag. It also helps with work use as you won't notice motion blur while scrolling through long documents, and your desktop inputs will feel responsive. Lastly, it has a flicker-free backlight that helps reduce eye strain during long sessions of use.

Although it's easier to find cheap monitors in smaller sizes, there are some cheap 27-inch monitors available if you want something cheaper than the ViewSonic Elite XG270. In that case, the LG 27GL650F-B is a great alternative, but the trade-off you have to make for getting a cheaper monitor is that it has a much lower 144Hz refresh rate. It's still fine for entry-level gamers, or if you don't have an advanced graphics card and 1080p @ 144Hz gaming is good enough for you. While you don't get the same motion handling as on the ViewSonic, it's still great thanks to its excellent response time at its max refresh rate, which remains good even with 60Hz signals.

It has a flicker-free backlight that helps reduce eye strain during long gaming sessions and an option to introduce flicker to reduce persistence blur, but it only works within a limited range. Input lag is low for a responsive feel, and it has VRR support to reduce screen tearing. While it provides great gaming performance, it doesn't offer many extra features, but there's a black stabilizer feature that makes it easier to see opponents in games.

Now some of you might remember that this monitor was advertised as having g-sync hardware in it when it was first announced. But, as you can plainly see, the g suffix has since been dropped from the product name. Now the monitor still does have a g-sync sticker on it because it received the g-sync compatible label from nvidia, so you'll have variable refresh rate, regardless of which graphics team you play for, but you'll miss out on some of the extras that would have come with a G-Sync hardware, module and full certification like an unlimited variable, refresh window and 165 hertz overclocking, which i guess brings us perfectly then to the 27 gl850s downsides

 Why would lg include this faster setting at all? Surely they must know as well as i do that it just looks bad well, here's one theory back when this monitor was announced at e3 2019. If you were shopping for a new monitor a few years ago, the general rule was that gamers would buy tn panels for their higher refresh rates and fast pixel response times, while creative types would get ips type panels for their accurate colors and wide viewing angles fast Forward to today and ips, refresh rates have climbed from 75 to 110 and even 144 hertz and now lg is claiming to have also closed the pixel response time gap with the 27 gl850, a 1440p 144hz ips monitor with an advertised one millisecond pixel response time by Developing a panel with a new high-speed liquid crystal layer that promises tn levels of speed if they pulled that off, it's an industry first and it's a huge deal, but is it marvelous or is it marketing [, Music ]? The main effect of pixel response time is the motion blur or the trail behind, moving objects, and in order to show you guys exactly what the motion blur is like on this monitor, we turned to blurbuster's excellent guide on how to build your own inexpensive pursuit camera. The idea is to put a camera on a slider and then try to move it at exactly the same speed as the objects on screen. That way, you can capture only the aspects of motion blur that are caused by the display and not those that are caused by the image persistence of the human eye. Sliding the camera at the right speed takes a few tries, but they built in this easy way to tell if you did it right

 Let'S compare with a couple of other monitors, then, starting with another ultra gear 120hz gaming monitor from lg that's advertised as having a more typical ips response time of 5 milliseconds. So there's no real difference in the amount of detail that we can see in our ufo. But where there is a difference is in the amount of ghosting visible on the trailing edge of the ship as the pixels struggle to switch colors quickly enough.  I ended up returning it, but I couldn't go back to 60Hz, so I splurged and bought the Alienware AW3418DW instead. It's expensive and only goes up to 120Hz, but it's worth it for the higher screen resolution and improved picture quality, IMO.  My recommendation is, if you must have ultrawide, save your money and get a 3440 x 1440 120Hz monitor. If you're okay with 16:9, get a 1440p 144Hz monitor instead

  Boy was I wrong. 1080p is just not a high enough screen resolution for a 34" monitor, perhaps unless you sit unusually far back from your monitor. Even compared to the 27" 16:9 1080p monitors I use at work, the pixel density on this thing is just painfully low. I found the gaps between individual pixels extremely noticeable - not as bad as the "screen door effect" of using a first-generation VR headset, but definitely unpleasant

  On the bright side, I can report that the higher refresh rate and G-Sync really do make a huge difference for first-person shooters. Particularly in Apex Legends, I used to have a ton of trouble tracking moving targets, and once I started firing I'd frequently lose track of what I was actually shooting at due to the muzzle flash. I thought maybe I was just getting old and my FPS days were done, but at 144Hz the problem has been dramatically reduced, and I'm consistently doing more damage and getting more kills in every match.  Nevertheless, I can't recommend this monitor because the picture quality just isn't good enough in my opinion

This monitor is highly underperforming, i have it for around 4 years but since i've upgraded to a desktop PC i get constant screen tearing. I've tried everything and nothing seems to work and I got to the conclusion that my monitor might not be compatible with the GPU. Thanks in advance and stay safe everyone!

Need help choosing a new monitor

 It would've been nice to receive updates from LG on the status, even if it was only that it had shipped, but at least I got it back and it works. I've adjusted my rating from 1 star to 2 for now. I still plan to update again after the warranty has expired. If it's still working well at that point I will reconsider my rating again
