LG G2 OLED Review: is it Worth Buying?

Great panel; terrible mounting and smart tv

1 inputs, it looks stunning mounted on the wall with the included no-gap wall mount and it is indeed LG's brightest OLED TV to date thanks to LG's OLED EVO technology, which is a blend of hardware and software efforts and in the case of the G2 here, happens to include a heatsink in the panel to allow the TV to reach those high brightness levels while also lowering risk of permanent image retention, aka burn-in. As an OLED TV, it offers pitch black black levels, which set the foundation for eye-popping contrast and LG's processing has also gotten really, really strong lately, which makes for solid motion, minimal noise and artifacts and really smart use of its peak brightness. In other words, the G2 doesn't just get bright for brightness sake, although you can make it do that if you want to, but in the most accurate picture modes, it resolves bright highlight detail in a way that is reminiscent of Sony TVs. If the idea is to deliver on creative intent, then LG is very much standing toe-to-toe with Sony in that regard, even if that isn't one of its primary marketing lines

LG G2 OLED TV Review: Should you buy it?

I'm planning on getting a 65" Samsung Frame and the ideal mounting location for it is a little high. We will have a lot of space behind the frame to place a mount (it's being mounted against a cabinet, not just the wall, so it should be easy to "flush" mount it.

Because the mount location is a bit high, we'd like to be able to pull it out and down or angle it down sometimes for watching TV and movies. I've seen Future Automation PS mounts recommended a lot for the Samsung Frame as a flush mount option, and it does seem like it has a nice swivel option. But, we don't really need the item to swivel left or right, we want it to come down in height when in use (or at minimum tilt down some).

And when we're done, we want to be able to place it back in the original position without too much hassle.

Are there good options for this?

I see Future Automation makes some \*electric\*  advance and drop TV mounts, but obviously an electric motorized mount is quite expensive

Mount for Frame TV that pulls (or angles) down

Don’t buy this for the “gallery” / “art” mode.

 You can, however, go for a traditional stand mount if you want, but that's shipped separately, as you see here, and it's going to cost you extra. I was really hoping that I would love this new stand, because the prior stand solution for the Gallery series, you may remember, was a pretty basic set of legs and kind of felt like a cheap afterthought. This is a more traditional looking stand, which I like, but that's where my appreciation stops, because otherwise, I hate this thing. Yeah, hate's a strong word, but sorry, I hate it

I was (maybe still am) strongly considering getting the 83" version, though I am wondering if I should hold off until news/rumors of next year's QD-OLED sizes start to come later this year. As you can see, color volume is noticeably lacking in the G2, especially at high brightness. That is an area where QD-OLED seems to greatly excel.

<p>The Real Scene and small window (1-10%) HDR brightness really takes the G2 to a new level over the A90J, but then interestingly, it falls behind it in the 25% and 50% windows.</p>

Way too expensive for what you get.

 It's made of high-quality metals and is solid throughout. There's a bit of flex on the back panel, but it's not too much of a concern. Now, on to our test results. We'll start with the contrast

 A high contrast ratio results in deep, dark blacks, which is good if you want to watch movies in a dark room like a home theater environment. Like any OLED, it has a near-infinite contrast ratio, resulting in perfect black levels. Because OLEDs also turn each pixel on and off and don't have a backlight, they don't have a local dimming feature. There's no blooming around bright objects, and it looks fantastic in dark rooms
