Galaxy Note 9. Technically a 3 year old phone, but I got it a year after it came out for a bargain. It's still running great for me, and nothing out there feels like a worthwhile upgrade. If it doesn't break, I'll likely still be using it two years from now.

I would say that most average users have no problem with using their phones for more than 3 years. Especially when they have a flagship, iPhone 6S is still fairly popular lol.  

Even though I'm an enthusiast I'm simply bored looking at all those generic glass slabs. I've sold my S10 only to get the Z Flip 3 in August, put the fun back into computing!

Just an overall great phone. Dropped it several times, screen hasn't broken. Dropped it in a river, didn't break.

The only thing I've done was replaced the battery back in 2018. I got the phone in December 2014.

Currently using an Xperia X, bought back in the beginning of 2017. Battery life isn't great (it was acceptable when it was new and overall bad nowadays, despite having the battery replaced last year) and it is starting to show slowdown issues from time to time (especially when hot), but I'm keeping it as long as it still works. 

I'm running the stock Android 8.0 firmware with September 2018 security patch. There are quite a bunch of custom ROMs for it (up to Android 10, last time I checked) and they're overall quite stable, however I stayed on stock because the NFC doesn't work for payments in these custom ROMs due to an unknown bug that makes the HCE part to not work (I can pass SafetyNet checks just fine on the custom ROMs and can successfully setup cards in Google Pay, but when you try to pay it just errors out due to this bug -- other NFC features do work, though).

Why I'm keeping it? I've never really been fond of the whole "more screen, less bezels" trend of the last 3 years or so, just didn't care, however things definitely went way too far when the OEMs started crippling core features just to brag they trimmed another half mm of bezels with the next phone. What did it cost? Screens with punch holes or weird notches (absolutely unacceptable for me -- thanks Apple for starting the trend), front firing stereo speakers are virtually gone and front cameras really, **really** suck nowadays. 

Just compare to my Xperia X, it has a front facing camera with a bigger sensor than most flagships nowadays (13 MP, f/2.0, 1/3", 22mm), it also has autofocus which is gone from most selfie cameras. The stock camera app isn't great, but I did some tests with GCam and a custom ROM sometime ago (stock firmware doesn't work with GCam, unfortunately) and I could get selfies on par with today's flagships. That's just bonkers, the front camera from a premium mid-rage released back in 2016 being able to perform on par with the ones found in flagships released 5 years later (when paired with the right software).

I really wish I could buy the newer Xperias, I would gladly pick any model they released after the Xperia 1/5/10 rebranding, but Sony Mobile left my country a few years back (last one released here was the Xperia XZ2), with Sony Electronics following suit earlier this year (only Sony thing left here is the PlayStation). With Sony out of the game, the only other option sold locally without a crippled screen is the Asus Zenfone series, but I got hands-on with one of them and they're just way too big for my liking and severely overpriced here, and the flip camera, although robust, is another moving part that can potentially break over time, especially considering I usually keep a phone a lot longer than the norm (that's about 4+ years for me).

**TL;DR** I really despise the notched and punch-holed screens from todays phones and the other downgrades associated with that move and I refuse to upgrade until non-crippled screens becomes the norm again. Hoping that when my Xperia X finally dies (it was already a nightmare sourcing a new battery for it last year) under-display front cameras already have became mainstream so I have more options with regular screens to choose from...

No new phones on the market has soft buttons for navigation anymore; a feature which I quite like. Mute switch is a great OnePlus exclusive feature on Android which I will sadly miss when I eventually buy a new phone when this one kicks the bucket. I am looking to buy a new phone and I am disgustingly disappointed that the market is full of giant phones, they don't make small phones anymore. The only option I have is Pixel 4a, which is 60 Hz so it's a deal-breaker, then the rest are €700+. 

So, apparently, I will still stick to my galaxy s6 from 2016, it works just fine, I am just tired of it.

I do financial stuff with my phone, etc. Just not worth the risk IMHO. On top of that, I usually have hardware problems on a 3 year+ old phone.

I hope that by the time I upgrade my Pixel 3a, there will be Android options with 5 years of support.

Still using my Moto G5 Plus I got back in 2017. It still works. I can go 2-4 days between charges (depending on how much I use it). I have no reason to replace it yet.

Still using a launch one plus 6. It has massive burn in now everywhere, but I just can't decide on my next phone cause everything got way more expensive since I bought my one plus 6. The op 9 pro is $1500 Canadian! I'm out priced from one plus phones now and there doesn't seem to be exciting mid range phones out there. Will try to keep my op 6 for another year.

I have been looking for a potential switch candidate for a while to be honest, almost a year now, but honestly 2020 felt like the year of overpriced 5g phones, nothing really exiting other than high refresh rate screens that was really worth the switch.

I'm getting pretty hyped for the Pixel 6 though, I have been looking to get into the pixel family since its very beginning so I'm hopeful that this will be the year.

If it wasn't that I'm a geek and I want to change phone just for the sake of it I could probably easily keep going with the OP6 for another year at the very least though, maybe even two. Always has been a very solid experience, the only complain is battery but that's just because I used it A LOT everyday for the past 3 years, and even then the fast charger doesn't really make it that big of a problem. Also maybe memory, 128gb were finished pretty quickly a bunch of time when constantly shooting 4k60fps videos during holidays lol.

As far as software is concerned I spent pretty much all the time I could on the beta program until it was closed, before I was forced to go back into stock I took advantage of the situation and installed magisk just to have Google sans as the font...and that's pretty much it lol. I have some app theming going on with substratum but it's really really light. 
Never had any complains but I really don't like OxygenOS 11 and will probably dip long before it will be even remotely stable. 

So yeah, I'm still having a pretty good experience overall, this phone surely stood the test of time.

I have a Pixel 2 XL. Was running stock rom up until a month ago (always rooted), and have switched over to ProtonAOSP.

I feel like there isn't a great reason to upgrade. New flagships cost way to much for what they offer and I'm not looking to move over to Samsung.

Want to see how the new Pixels dare after a few months and go from there. Still have great battery life and performance on this phone!

Still sporting a Sony Xperia XZ1. Why? Because it still works like on the first day. Only thing that bothers me is that the camera is much worse than modern phones.

I kept my Oppo Find 7a for almost 5 years until it was no longer usable.  
LineageOS kept it running well for a long time, but eventually it just got too unstable. I guess the flash storage in it had started to degrade or something.  
  
Now I've got the Moto G 5g+, I'll see if that can hold up for as long.

Still on my LG G6. It's really slow, and it hasn't received updates for over two years now. But it is built like a tank, has IP68/MilSpec ratings, and the IPS screen doesn't get burn-in like OLED does. As all manufacturers decided to no longer offer similarly-specced devices, I'm sitting this one out. And as Samsung decided to give Europe the finger by only offering the worse chipset, the 'best' alternative is right out.

No custom ROM but I kept my LG G6 for 3 years. Mainly because I really don't care for any other manufacturers and I only finally upgraded when the pixel 5 was released. I will have pixels from here forwards because I care more about software upgrades than hardware specs.

Had my S7 for 4 years. mSD slot, headphone jack, incredible screen and camera... The headphone jack said goodnight eventually and later the phone was killed by screen rot. Now I'm looking for a new phone and have no idea what to get, but I know I don't need a flagship anymore. 

If I were to ever get another expensive phone I would want to take advantage of some sort of trade in program before the device was dying so as not to feel I wasted too much money. A $500+ purchase that's dead after 4 years is not appealing.

<div class="md"><p>I&#39;ve had the Oneplus 8t+ 5G from t-mobile and I don&#39;t think I&#39;m going to be upgrading until it breaks or something fails. A phone this new has everything I could ever need. 12gb of ram, 256gb of storage, 120hz screen, a great camera with gcam, the specs go on but at the end of the day a  working phone is still a good phone.</p>
