 So it does prevent counter-flexing, it does make the ski a lot damper, it does a great job at absorbing the unwanted vibrations and chatter. And so for a ski with bamboo, a lighter wood like that, adding that metal does make a big difference for this ski. So at 106 underfoot, this one is in the blurring the all-mountain, the freeride range here. You could use this in a daily format, you would want there to be softer snow, but generally this will be more of a powder-oriented ski, soft snow-oriented due to the width, as well as the rocker shape and taper

 That bamboo does a really good job of providing a unique feel to a ski. Liberty is kind of one of the only brands that uses it as much as they do. Really gives them just a totally different feel to the ski, different character and personality. The poplar brings the density and the energy to the ski, so it's a nice mix of woods for this as well

 So at 106 underfoot, this one is in the blurring the all-mountain, the freeride range here. The Ranger 102 and and Blade Optic 104 are good choices. Also consider the Blizzard Rustler 10, Rossi Sender 104 Ti, and Liberty Origin 106.

Currently I ride Volkl mantra m5 as my daily driver. Looking for a directional ski I can rely on in firm conditions but also has low swing weight in the trees. I’m thinking ~105mm underfoot. Looking at the Fischer Ranger 102 (last year and this year) in addition to Fischer Ranger 108, and Line Blade Optic 104. If anyone has skied the Ranger both on the current model and previous year models your input is especially welcomed as I know they changed the entire line this year.

Open to all suggestions.

Give me recommendations for a tree/mogul leaning daily driver

 You don't really want to bowed out rockered ski for skinning because there won't be as much of the ski on the ground giving you the proper purchase with your skins on. So we do see a flatter tail specifically than we do in the Origin 106. Less splay, less rocker. But the tip, kind of the same way as we see with this long, low rocker profile, very similar to the regular Origin 106, gives you great float, pops you right up there

 So wood core with Aspen laminates really does a great job of keeping the ski kind of true to its roots in terms of downhill performance, but giving it that lighter weight build for uphill efficiency. And that's really what it's all about, is blurring and blending that line between uphill capability and downhill fun. So this one, being a true Liberty, certainly excels on the downhill. Having that lighter weight doesn't hurt on the uphill either

I've liberty origin 106 and feels perfect for all conditions. Its wide and light for powder and quick turns, but also stable at high speed and cuts through chopped snow.

I’ve been using Atomic Vantage 85 for the last few seasons since I was just learning. However, I have been considering getting new skis (not that it’s necessary). Where I ski we get quite a bit of snow so I was wondering what size of ski would work best? I was thinking 100 (+5 or -5) would be a good width underfoot in order to do well in powder but not be too bulky for the rest of the hill. What sizes and more importantly what skis would you recommend? Thanks!

 So this amount of the ski is the tip rocker, and very similar to the other 106, a nice rounded shape, nice tapered cut here to the tip, that's going to make it really stay up and plane over the fresh and soft snow that you're going to find out in the backcountry. And then in the tail, whereas we would see a lot longer of a rocker profile and more splay in the Origin 106, in this backcountry version, we're getting this much tail rocker with very much less splay. So with that flatter tail, they basically just cut off the rounded edge, so you do get a similar taper shape for skiing and a little bit more easier, smoother release, but for skinning purposes, having less splay keeps your skin in contact with the snow more, gives you more grip and a more efficient climbing technique. So that's kind of the reason for that, that's like one of the bigger differentiators in the shape between this and the regular 106, but definitely more in terms of that construction, that's where we see this ski and its light weight separate itself

 You can put any type of hybrid or tech binding you wish on this thing, that lighter tech binding will obviously make it more efficient on the uphill, and at this width, we are getting some extra material to it, so it's not the best climber. There are narrower and lighter skis, but when you get to the top, generally you're going to want something like this for the way down, also with that slightly burlier hybrid style binding. So 106 underfoot, this is the 182 20 meter turn radius, so pretty long, pretty similar to the Origin 106, but really where we see the differences are in the tail of this ski. We still get a little bit of camber underfoot, but just like the Origin 106 regular, we get an extremely long rocker profile here, so when we decamber it, you can see that rocker starts here

 So by having those lighter weight woods with the carbon, we don't have any metal in this ski, we do get a good amount of energy while keeping the weight down, which is definitely what you're looking for in this backcountry slash alpine touring ski. The rep gave it to us with a kingpin on it. You can put any type of hybrid or tech binding you wish on this thing, that lighter tech binding will obviously make it more efficient on the uphill, and at this width, we are getting some extra material to it, so it's not the best climber. There are narrower and lighter skis, but when you get to the top, generally you're going to want something like this for the way down, also with that slightly burlier hybrid style binding

Alpine/Touring Set Up

 Camber underfoot and then long rocker in the tail as well. So that starts down about here, a nice low, low, long, gradual rocker in the tail. Moderate splay, you know, as far as a 106 goes, I'm not going to call it a freestyle twin tip, but certainly has that turned up tail for more modern freeride techniques. And again, just a whole lot of fun to be had out there on the hill on this Origin 106

 The bamboo really sets this ski apart from a construction standpoint. It's a very light, energetic material and just very quiet as well. The way they use it, the thickness of it in the core makes for a very stable and smooth ride. Pretty unique if you've never been on a Liberty before, skied a bamboo core, highly recommend trying it out

 So very low, long rocker, pretty gradual, a little bit of a splay at the top. But that combined with this rounded shape really makes this thing get up and stay out of the snow. Camber underfoot and then long rocker in the tail as well. So that starts down about here, a nice low, low, long, gradual rocker in the tail

I’m a decently advanced skier that skis pretty playfully but charge when I have the speed, don’t have a ton of experience in real deep snow but plan on it next year and need a ski that can handle some powder but can handle a groomer and maybe a jump or two.
