I've used the Harmony Hub and the 950 remote for years now and have found it to be one of the more reliable options.  The only complaint I have at the moment is that the battery life on the remote has gotten much shorter and so it spends a lot of time in the dock.

Usually, in my experience, these issues have to do with the positioning of the device being controlled and how the Harmony is configured to try and talk to the device.  For your Yamaha receiver and Samsung TV, IR is usually the right selection.  In my case, the positioning of the receiver in relationship to the Harmony Hub required use of one of the IR blasters because the Harmony hub was on a shelf above the receiver and the IR signal wasn't getting to the receiver.  .

mine works well. An older  model must be 8 years 

google assistant audio command interfaced to Logitech harmony . Turns on or off tv  set top box, marantz avr, sharp Roku tv and tunes in cnn.  In one audio command.    Easy peasy

New universal remote - Harmony Hub stinks

 I don’t keep my old phones. Good news is the remote does control all devices I want it too after all that.  Logitech really needs an upgrade to this hub

I really like this remote. It is ergonomically designed to fit your hand. Buttons I most use are right at my thumb where I need them. Now the bad part the hub connecting to router

Good remote but difficult setup because the hub can only connect to 2.4GHz single band router

I'd love to be able to control all three using one single remote. As far as I can tell, the Logitech Harmony does exactly this, although the Philips Hue buttons are limited in functionality (only possible to turn lights on or off - not change light or set a specific scene).

 It's great for what it can do, if you have the patience.  If you like the hub and app idea and think the Logitech remote will empower other users in your house to use the hub to control things, don't be fooled. Without the app, the remote is useless and even with everything configured, other users will never know how to use the remote if they haven't been involved in configuring activities or at least instructed on which buttons start which activities, and even then it is a guessing game to get to the functions they want once the devices they want are on.  There are 2 issues I have and these are the reasons I returned the product:  1) There is very little basic information to get started

 After that, the remote will map the most basic TV controls (like channel and volume control) until the activity ends and/or the device is turned off.  Many buttons on the remote can be configured to start Activity routines, but only the person who configures the remote will ever truly know what buttons do what. If the rest of your family wants to watch TV, they will not be able to use the remote without some training. Most cheaper universal remotes have basic device buttons labeled like "TV" or "DVD" to denote those buttons will switch the basic function control of the remote to that device

  Since there is no IR control from the Logitech remote, it cannot function without the hub. A connection to the Logitech servers seems to be required so if you lose internet access and/or wireless connectivity, the remote will not work.  I might look in to the Elite remote, but it is very expensive, so I am also seeing what other advanced universal remote solutions are out there. The Sofabaton has a screen, almost like the Elite, and an app but is significantly cheaper than any Logitech solution

 There does not seem to be a way to assign a particular device button you would find on the native remote to the Logitech remote and there is not a way to assign a button to switch device control to a specific device.  They tried to increase the number of assignable buttons by differentiating a "short" press and a "long" press. I had a lot of issues with this. Sometimes the remote seems like it is not responding to any button press, sometimes it seems like it is only responding to long button presses, and sometimes it would register a button press as 2 button presses when navigating menus

Powerful Universal Remote, but...

 Opening this up to be configured by the user would allow for greater home automation integration and flexibility that might rival higher cost systems; features like having the lights dim up when pressing pause during a movie and returning down when pressing play again. I was able to emulate this via a home control button, but it was an arduous process and means I need to remember to pause via that home control button during a movie.  Overall, this is a great universal remote system that still needs some work on the software side for customization and flexibility. If you have a simple system and don't want to tinker, you'll find this easy to setup and use

 The dedicated buttons are great and despite a light bulb on two and an outlet on the other two, they can be assigned to pretty much any device. You can also add home control actions directly to activities, so Watch a Movie could include dimming lights and/or closing blinds if you have them to integrate. I make extensive use of these buttons through a connection to SmartThings. With the flexibility of SmartThings, you can make almost anything happen through those 4 home control features

 With the shift toward DVR and streaming sources, it makes sense that users will want easy access to play/pause/ff/rewind. In fact, this shift is why I would recommend this remote over the Smart Control even for users without home automation devices to control. The buttons feel good on the hand, and the layout is just distinct enough to provide good location by feel, which is important because it doesn't have backlit buttons (to the detriment of WAF). No backlit keys does help prolong the battery life, which is rated for a year from a small CR style coin battery and can be easily replaced

 Logitech generally works with the major players like Hue, Wemo, Nest, etc... and the Home Control remote adds 4 dedicated home control buttons as well as an up/down rocker for adjusting settings like dim level for the latest selected device

Best of the Harmony Remotes

I've been asked by a friend to help consolidate her 4 remotes into one remote/app.

I'm assuming an IR blaster is the best way to go about this? There'a a galaxy projector remote, stereo remote, LED strip remote and a heater remote, so it doesn't really seem like something a media universal remote could replace.

I use a Broadlink RM4 Mini at home through Home Assistant, works perfect for me with the automations and homekit bridge etc. But I'm looking for a solution that would work just with an app. The Broadlink app is a little dinky.

Any suggestions?

IR Blaster with functional app?

5/5  Receiver control: I'm running a Denon AVRS730. I really only used the Harmony to change the volume - which it did pretty flawlessly. Switching inputs involved pressing the 'scenes' buttons. That was more problematic

5/5  Roku control: Probably similar to cable box here. In general I was able to scroll through the Roku menu options well, although again it did feel just a touch slow. Being able to program to go straight into Netflix was great. No real issues, so I'd give it 4

 2/3 of the way into the movie I wanted to pause. Harmony-->click-->nothing. Hmm. Harmony--->scene--->nothing

Powerful, but finicky.  Don't even bother if you have a Sony Playstation.
