We've got a couple of adapters obviously with the Australian Adapters for the power supplies and Of course the IR blasters with some more of that awesome amazing Yeah Yeah Okay Okay, so this is got to be the worst part about power supplies Massively wide winglets on these things. It's just insane that they supply them like this They obviously don't plug them in because that is gonna take up about four ports

 We've also got our sonos And now so nos in our lounge and bathroom and you can see in terms of control There's quite a lot. It's more or less. You've got a phone control Basically on this screen and then if you're old-school or you want to just use the manual buttons, you can go down there Hey, so we've gone into entertainment devices to try and hook up this air conditioning remote. We've got a Mitsubishi here So what I did is found the brand obviously as you can see Turned it over and got the name of the remote in the back

 So that would be speed one The way that it works on this remote is that I push the fan speed button and that speed to speed three Speed four and then it loops back to auto now. You can't do that for this. So I've got fan speed on there I can push fan speed but what it knows is What it knows that command is is the only it's the IR that I've shot for that particular one So if I've shot the hub and it's learnt the fan speed As speed number two that command is actually speed number two It won't loop like the LCD remote. It just goes speed to speed to speed to So what we're going to end up with on this is fan speed one, two, three Four and fan speed auto so five different fan speed settings on this remote So there's a lot more complex on this compared to the original one So just a little lesson there if you're thinking about getting this it's not as straightforward as I would have hoped it would have been Load the remote in and boom it's gone perhaps on on actual TV remotes

Harmony Elite remote from Logitech review

An app based solution is always going to be a bit kludgy IMO. But I've got a Logitech Harmony hub that certainly has a functional, if sometimes annoying, app. 

I've been asked by a friend to help consolidate her 4 remotes into one remote/app.

I'm assuming an IR blaster is the best way to go about this? There'a a galaxy projector remote, stereo remote, LED strip remote and a heater remote, so it doesn't really seem like something a media universal remote could replace.

I use a Broadlink RM4 Mini at home through Home Assistant, works perfect for me with the automations and homekit bridge etc. But I'm looking for a solution that would work just with an app. The Broadlink app is a little dinky.

Any suggestions?

IR Blaster with functional app?

 There is Logitech’s own app/skill and “Eric’s Integration for Logitech”. I tried both skills and found that I really couldn’t get Harmony’s own app/skill to do anything but turn the TV on, and it wasn’t consistent when it did work. Even if it did everything the skill said it could, all that it can currently do is turn activities on/off and change the channel to one of your predefined “favorite” channels. With the “Eric’s Integration for Logitech” skill it would more consistently turn the TV on, but again what it could do was very limited and worked inconsistently

 I think the concept is good, but the execution is something that is still a work in progress. Hopefully with time the software will improve and the Amazon Echo integration will get better. So if you’re like me and want to get this remote for its integration with Amazon’s Echo I’d hold off and maybe consider the next smart device integrated remote Logitech comes out with.

 I highly recommend using the software on your computer vs. the smart phone app as it's just a lot easier to use if you have a lot of devices/activities (I have 6 devices and 11 activities). You can download the PC/Mac software from Harmony's website. Even if you aren't importing an existing remote, the setup and default button choices will likely work for most people

  After configuring the remote I started using it and I found certain annoyances with the ergonomics and lack of buttons. With this remote they've done away with the numerical buttons for a larger touch screen where you can find the numerical buttons. When you hold the remote it's rather difficult to reach the touch screen and some of the buttons with your thumb. If you’re used to using a hand to hold the remote and another to push the buttons then this annoyance won’t likely be an issue

Good concept with Alexa integration, but still needs improvement

 Now I know a lot of modern TVs have a Netflix button, mine's slightly older and doesn't, what you can do though is you can program this to follow a sequence, so I've programmed this and it's a bit of a hit and miss, but I programmed this to turn on the telly, start the smart TV mode and then navigate to Netflix and we're just going to see if that will work for you now. So it's powering on the TV, it's gone to the smart menu, there's Netflix, I have to select it on here and I don't know if you can see this too well but this square represents where it's going and there we go, so it's just moved across one, down one and it should have selected Netflix and there we go. So I may not have a Netflix button, it doesn't really matter because you can program in a set order of commands and you can add things like delays, so if it needs to wait 10 seconds before then proceeding to the next step and once you're in it just works like the normal TV remote would do, you can just go ahead and select whatever you want to watch, this has the advantage of having play pause buttons on it which my normal TV remote doesn't so I can pause the action if I need to as well as mute things and it's got all the usual buttons on that you'd expect and what's really nice is you can program these buttons to do something in particular, so if there's a button on here that isn't being used but that you'd like to do something with it, maybe you want to have a Netflix button on here because your TV has a Netflix button, you can go ahead and program one of these to do that function specifically for that device. You've got loads of options as to what this will work with, it will work with the Nest, it will work with the smart lights that are available from various places and in theory it should work with the Amazon speakers, the DOT and the Echo and what have you, but I found that to be quite hit and miss, although the commands will be acknowledged it doesn't always work, so we'll just give it a go, see if it works now, Alexa tell Harmony to watch TV

 Although I actually found setup to be very simple because once you've downloaded the app you simply follow the on-screen instructions to set up a new hub and that will explain how to connect all the various bits and pieces, where to place it, it'll initialise it, get your remote synchronised, it does the full works and then you are ready to get set up. Now this is the bit that will take a while, if your devices are connected to the same network they can be picked up by the app and automatically detected which type of device it is and they can be added straight away, otherwise you have to go through a manual adding process but to be honest that doesn't take too long because there's a huge database sat behind this and you simply search for the device and once you've found what you want simply follow the instructions for connecting it, in some cases you'll need to put in your access credentials so for Nest for example you'll need to grant this access to be able to use your Nest equipment. Once you've got all your devices you then need to set up activities, again this can take a while but it's well worth doing because in the long run this will save you a load of time so you can set up what devices are used, what channels are going to be selected on things like amps and the volume, whether you want the lights at a certain level, it's well worth experimenting with various activities and devices and once they're set up they're simply a bump push away. It takes a bit of time to do but it's well worth putting in the effort to set up the activities on your mobile, if you've got the remote they'll be synchronized with the remote so you don't have to program each device separately, I would recommend the remote if there's a few of you in the house it just means you'll have to download and install the app on everyone's mobile phone but if you want to save a bit of money you can get the hub just on its own

 Once you've got this programmed in it's then just a matter of pressing the activity that you're interested in, so for example on the remote I'm just going to press that I want to watch TV, that now tells the hub I want to watch TV and it runs through the programmed activity, so it's turning on the amplifier, it's setting it to the TV channel, it's switched on my LG TV and you can see the TiVo's now waking up. You can then also have this set to different channels and you can set favorite channels on the remote and it's just a case of pressing the touchscreen and it will change over to the channel of your choice, that's actually really good because certainly in the UK we've still got the standard deaf channels and rather than having to go through and find HD channels you just program the high-deaf ones straight into the remote. Logitech Harmony Elite Remote Control Review

Using the provided software and integrated compatibility lists, I am able to run "macro"-like tasks whenever buttons are pressed. IE: I press the TV button and it turns on my TV, changes to Input 1, turns on my receiver, and turns on my cable box. From there, the Volume buttons control the receiver, Channels, List, Guide, etc.

 If you have a lot of equipment be patient it takes some time getting model numbers but pays off at the end. A bit disappointed that my original remote being Harmony One software is not compatible with the new remote which had a remote replacement option that would program the new remote automatically. Having something similar was ok because I was able to find my Make and Model of my equipment in the Harmony One software, but still was over an hour programming the new remote.  My next disappointment was using the hub with the Alexa

The remote looks great. Hub was able to be setup in not so obvious spot. If you have a lot of equipment be patient it takes some time getting model numbers but pays off at the end.  What a headache.  Next would be setting up a Zone 2 Watch TV. It will not let me unless I added a TV to the programming, which is not needed because I have another remote in my workout room that does that.  Again Zone 3 Listen to Music like above not being able to have favorites unless you program Watch TV when using cable box for source of music

 And with support for third party integration with other home automation products like Samsung SmartThings the combinations you can render become endless. So now on to the deal breaker, the pricing. So this is going to run you a whopping $350. Who is this for? Well if you have more than three remotes in the house, a couple of gaming consoles and you're looking to upgrade your home and add some more connected devices like the Philips Hue Smart Bulbs or maybe an Apple TV or Roku, then this might be worth the investment

 So for example if the activity includes television by swiping up or down that will adjust the volume and tapping and holding will mute it. Now you can also customize the buttons with button mapping. So say you want to assign these buttons to a particular action. Well you hop into the edit device settings and select your buttons you want to map to a desired command

 The screen's resolution isn't the highest but that's good since it doesn't consume too much power, especially because the screen only turns on when it detects motion. You can expect a couple days to a week per charge. Lastly you have the Harmony Hub which is the brains of the operation and two IR extenders that we'll go over later. So to set up the Elite, you download the Harmony app on Android or iOS to connect the Harmony Hub via Bluetooth for the initial setup only

And let me just say, I'm glad I did. So let's start with the design and then we'll talk about what this thing can actually do

By far, the best remote system I've ever had has been the Logitech Harmony with a hub. Basically, the hub sits with the other gear and where it can, it uses your local wifi to connect to everything, and for what doesn't work with that, there's a IR built in plus it comes with a separate corded IR blaster you can position in a closed cabinet or whatever. It just works and it works for everything.

 It's a high maintenance exercise in frustration, but it usually beats dealing with six separate remotes.

  When everything is working, the Harmony Elite is great. Easy to use, intuitive, quick to respond, etc. I don't have to think about it, it just does it's thing.

.. It's like the anti-iPhone. Adding new devices can take anywhere from 30 seconds to three hours

. I dunno, lose its ability to turn the TV off one day. It's always something, and this wonderful remote that's supposed to make everything easier turns into a four-hour troubleshooting session.  Maintenance is a headache: you do some thing through the app and some things through the desktop and some things through the remote itself, and the interfaces are different in each space

When it works, it’s great.  It doesn’t always work.

 Is a Harmony Elite worth it if you're not lounging in your solarium on a yacht in the harbor of St. Bart's? Well, yes. I'd probably find it really hard to go back, now that I have one. This remote attempts to tie the entire entertainment experience together in a seamless way

 The Harmony Elite is designed to offload as much of the heavy workload as possible from the remote to the hub. It's the hub that really controls your components while the remote controls the hub. The hub can use infrared, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, and it listens for your remote via RF, so it can work with pretty much anything out there, and it doesn't need line-of-sight to your remote. It does need line-of-sight to your components, though, and for that reason you also get a couple of IR blasters in the box

 So I finally got to a point where I just couldn't take it anymore. I saved up my money, and I bought a Logitech Harmony Elite. The purpose of this video is to see if it's worth it for a regular guy like me who doesn't live in a gilded castle to pay as much money for a remote as you might pay for an actual component. So let's just take a look

 But I'm a regular guy with a regular salary, so a $300 remote always seemed a bit of an unnecessary indulgence, however good it was. If you're like me, you come home to a mess of remotes like this one. Maybe you even have to use a game controller to control your media streaming and things like that. And you've probably gotten used to the little dance we all have to do trying to line up our remotes with the sensor on whatever component we're controlling
