I've purchased an aftermarket ball for my MX Ergo Plus (My favorite trackball mouse). The replacement is glossy, slightly glittery green and super dope. I've heard that some people apply a light coat of automotive grade wax to their balls to make tracking smoother.

I have owned multiple Elecom trackballs and the newer Kensington with artificial ruby and they are definitely not as nice as say my Logitech MX Ergo. I will say that at least for my unit and maybe the smaller ball helps since it's easier to manipulate but I do not find it quite as big of a negative as on other artificial ruby trackballs that I have used.

My favorite is the Logitech MX Ergo Plus. I like it better than the other Logitech trackballs because it puts your wrist in a neutral position.
