 The Echo, rather than having any sort of data connection that you can see, has just got a replaceable battery, like a CR2032, a typical button cell, it has a touch-sensitive screen, and it has four buttons on it. What those four buttons do, they're identified as kind of the start-stop buttons, music, forward and back buttons, as well as the light, but if it actually does that, it's based on the app. Now, I started off just based on my own habit, using MapMyFitness, and what I found was that this thing was really kind of a dumb display in MapMyFitness. When I switched over to Wahoo Fitness, it was like an entirely new device, because Wahoo really integrates everything into here

 So just to look at the components, again, we've got this heart rate monitor, and similar to other heart rate monitors, it's got the link-up band, you've got the electrodes which come back through here, and they go to either side, hook to your chest, this detaches, has a replaceable battery, clips back in, simple, it's a Magellan, it's Bluetooth rather than the ANT+, and it works. And really, with a heart rate monitor at this point, that's really all you want, is something that you can wet down, hook to your chest, and have it be recognized. Now, this sports watch weighs nothing compared to, well, for instance, or for example, anyway, the Polar RC3. Now, again, it doesn't look like there's a huge difference, but I would say that the Polar weighs twice as much as the Echo

 Now, I started off just based on my own habit, using MapMyFitness, and what I found was that this thing was really kind of a dumb display in MapMyFitness. You can control your music, you can start up a playlist if you want to exercise while listening to music, which isn't something I do, but it is a function here, and then you can actually control the music using your watch.  Versatile in that respect -The band is pretty comfortable. -The screen is really easy to see on a sunny day while running, much easier than my phone's screen. -It syncs up with MapMyRun easily, although Wahoo fitness app gives you more useful readouts (I've invested a lot of running history in MMR, otherwise I might have been tempted to switch for that reason alone.) -The price is reasonable for what you get

) -Battery (Phone) -- You can't just put the phone to sleep once you start running, or it will lose its sync, so I end up having the screen of the phone on, which kills its battery. No issue for up to five miles or so, or if you have a full battery, but for long distance runs, might pose a problem. --Tied to phone -- Now, I knew this going in, and mostly it's fine. I always wear my phone anyway, but you can't even so much as set the time when you get it until you sync it with your phone

When it arrived, the battery was low so nothing really worked at first. After purchasing a new battery, it was better but directions are non existent - must go to the internet and use You-tube. I wanted to use it with "Map my Run" app which was suppose to be compatible but never did get it to work other than to record total time. I switched to Wahoo Fitness which according to reviews was the app that was used during Beta Testing

 It did work well with Wahoo fitness and I can save it to map my fitness so I can view my stats on line.

Low Battery and Start up problems

 Basically any notification that's supported on the iPhone or an Android will connect with the watch also. So you know and the appealing factor here on this obviously is price, functionality, and battery life in my opinion. I mean you get you know six months battery life on a basic coin battery is not a bad proposition and the price of the Magellan Echo smart sports watch is not bad either and they come in lots of different colors and that's it. They're available now Amazon or through Magellan

 So the first feature I can show you is the watch mode feature, basically tells you the time. Like as watchers do, right? And the activity tracking feature will show you steps, distance, calories, and sleep. Echo Fit also has the ability to set an alarm, but I won't demo that in this presentation. To access the sports mode we have to pick an app, a third party app

 So that's one distinctive feature for this is that it's got a development kit that developers actually making apps for. So if you're into running or mountain climbing, this watch might be handy. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to tap on the fitness app, turn it on, and I'm going to switch Echo into what I call storage mode by going to the menu and hitting this button right here. You hit work out and within a minute it should connect

 Also, pairing can take a long time. Finally, my start point seems to be off when I use the watch to start a run, as opposed to just starting the run directly from the app. I'm not sure if this is an app issue or not, but it seems to take the starting point of where you pair it and not where you start it.  And the Reflect is the Wahoo that I was talking about. The Echo is this watch. So you toggle this Echo, External Display, to On. And then it searches

 So, here's the thing with this. Like, in the box, you don't even know how to turn it on the way it comes. Right? So just start pushing buttons. Hey! Just started

 The watch will shut itself off mid-run. There's no warning. It just stops working. You have to re-establish the bluetooth connection

I'm writing a review because if you're serious about getting a running watch you need to be aware of a few things with this one.  1. Not a lot of instructions provided. 2

 And so what Ben does, and what I will do now, is when I'm running very much I wear a running vest. So I'm going to click on, down here in the bottom it says sensors, and it's already got the Echo chosen, it's already connected now, so I'm going to push that, and then it says display configurations, so I could go on forever here, but what you do is you can set it up for the different screens, what you want to show on each screen, you can show one thing or a couple of different things, and you also can choose buttons, and so you've got four buttons plus a touch screen, and so you can set up each button to do a variety of things, so I'm going to push, as if I'm going to change this one, I can set it up to show the previous page, the next page, start pause, resume workout, music, control the music, and then if you push music, then you can also choose to start music, go back a track or whatever, so I'm going to cancel that, but you can set up each button to do what you want it to do, it's very very slick, it's very easy to do, when you push on a button on any of these down here it gives you all these choices, and then if you choose music it has another set, so you can choose what you want each button to do. Once you get it all set up, you can choose, you can have a button that starts the app, or you can just start it from here, it's however you want to do it, so you can push a button, it'll start it, put this in your vest pocket or your running pocket or whatever, and go for your run, you can have it auto pause, you don't have to have any audio announcements at all, you can just have it from here or you can have both, I can see this, it'll every mile give me the run down, so the music drops down and you hear the announcement if that's what you want, however you want to control, so it's very user friendly, and each app is different, some apps have you, you can swipe across the screen, some you control by buttons, so I've got two or three apps and they all work differently, they all don't give you the choice of setting up the buttons, so that's what I kind of like about this Wahoo fitness thing, because then I can send the information to any of my programs. So anyway, this is the Magellan Echo smart watch that works with all kinds of apps, as long as you keep this, your iPhone charged, you can go forever and it will keep all the information for you

 And you can save it to a whole bunch of different programs, Map My Run, Garmin Connect, just a whole bunch of them, so whatever you use, it can save info to that.

 So that means it uses a regular watch battery, they can last 6 months to a year, you know. So this is going to keep going, and so I thought, well I'm going to give this a try instead of going with the traditional GPS running watch. There are some issues though, if you just do 5Ks or half for full marathons, perhaps best for you, it's just a regular watch. But for the longer events, I think hooking it up with one of many apps, and the list isn't exhaustive yet, but I've got 2 or 3 running apps that work with this, I think they're up to 5 or 6 or 7, and they add more all the time
