It is on the firmer side, but it is also thick making it great for any practice that requires a significant amount of balance. This six-millimeter mat is made of Oeko-Tex Certified PVC and offers excellent dry grip and decent wet grip once broken in. It's a beefy mat that won't move when you kick your legs up into a handstand or back into a plank from a downward-facing dog. While PVC is not the most "eco-friendly" of yoga mat materials, it is also ranked very high for durability, so you won't have to replace it every year like a less durable rubber mat.  
At first, you'll find that traction on this mat leaves much to be desired, both with wet and dry hands. Once broken in properly, it becomes much stickier, allowing for a more involved yoga class, but it's best to take things slowly at first. You can also speed up the break-in process by sprinkling the unrolled mat generously with sea salt, letting it sit out in the sun for 24 hours, removing the salt with a damp clean towel, and then laying it flat to dry.  So this yoga mat really isn't for that so I don't think I've ever traveled with this yoga mat because it's so heavy and so if you have this yoga mat if you want to travel you will have to invest also in a travel yoga mat which will be that much lighter. So this yoga mat comes in different colors and another thing is that Manduka offers different classifications of yoga mats. This one is the heaviest. This one is considered the Pro which you will have for a lifetime

 Now another thing to consider is that this yoga mat has exceptional grip. Okay it might take some time in the beginning when you buy your yoga mat to break it in. Like for example I bought yet my yoga mat and I didn't do much research about what to do once I receive it. So I got my Manduka Yoga Mat

 Now this is a really heavy yoga mat and it comes in at 3.4 kilos. Of course if you want you can travel with it if you consider the fact that it'll be hard to bring it on the plane with you because it's too heavy you could always put it in your luggage. However once you get to wherever it is you go whether it's to practice with a teacher or a yoga retreat or anywhere you will have to carry this mat around with you to your classes and then bring it back home again

 So I've had my Manduka Yoga Mat for around 10 years and normally every year I try to travel to one of my teachers. However here's one thing I never take my Manduka Pro Mat with me and the main reason for that is that it's so heavy. Now this is a really heavy yoga mat and it comes in at 3.4 kilos

 Now for example in ashtanga we are coming to downward facing dog a lot. Now when we're in downward facing dog the last thing we want is our hands to be sliding anywhere. So with my Manduka now I've had this for 10 years my hands aren't going anywhere so this mat offers exceptionally good grip. Now this yoga mat is made of closed cell technology and what this means is that it won't absorb any moisture any of your sweat so if you practice something like ashtanga or vinyasa flow where you might sweat a lot especially in the summer then you don't have to worry about any of your mat absorbing any of this because all you have to do is just wipe it down at the end of your practice

 I have never had this issue with other mats.  As for weight, I can see why some would say they don’t drag it to class, but I do and have no problem with the transfer. The ends are curled at first, but that lessens quickly and is sped along by alternating your roll-up. The overall quality is very good and I can see why other say this is the last expensive mat they will likely need to buy

I'll bet your whole body weighs a bit more than this mat does. If you're WALKING to yoga class, that's different, but try bungee cording it to the back of a bike in that case. For me, when walking a trail to an overlook or riverbank or something, then weight does become an issue with this mat. Then again, fluffy grass will serve in a pinch

 I personally think that if some other mats weren't so mushy, they'd probably slide around alot more when sweating buckets anyway. In short, there was an initial twinge throwing down the cash for this kind of item (and the towel). However, if I use something on a very regular basis (say, everyday), and bought something shoddy, I hate it every time I see it. But if I buy quality, its like paying all the money I'm going to spend on that area for quite awhile up front-and getting something I'm actually happy with

 Durability: No matter how many years I have left on this Earth, I will be dead before this mat wears out. This mat and the roaches may be the only things to survive the Apocalypse. Good God, is this a durable mat. Appearance: Well, it won't make you the cool kid in yoga class; it's not pretty

 A toddler's worth of heaviness. However, the thickness really does supply extra cushioning for knees and hands. I see the younger folks in my class with their weightless Jade mats and I envy them, but those days are over for me. I can still use my thinner mat at home on top of a carpet but on a hard studio floor the thickness of this mat has been great

 But now, after using it for a few months, it's great. I don't know what happened but one day I noticed I didn't need my grippy socks anymore and I wasn't sliding around. Kind of a granny mat but it works!

 Then I hosed it off, and let it dry in the sun. It was primo sticky after that. Why didn't I give it a full five stars? While I am fit enough to haul it around, this baby's weight is quite substantial. I am still sort of having this love/hate relationship with it-it seems to be sticky when I don't quite need it, and still a bit slippy when I need the traction

 I asked a friend who has one ans she said hers still smells after two years. Back it went.  I finally bit the bullet and when high end, trying the Manduka through Amazon. Applying my Amazon credit card points to the purchase cut the cost in half, so that made the thought a bit easier to digest

 I expect this well keep improving over time as it gets seasoned.  Another element that increased my confidence in this purchase is the fact that everyone I speak to that has one for a while loves it and say they wear like iron -- the last mat you will need to buy. Why a 4? The slight slip and the weight. The 85' mat s a bit of a beast to cart around
