 Now it does go onto one of these, and there's one problem with this. Let me show you. I'm going to use the microphone from above because the cord has been disconnected, but you get what it looks like, right? So it's right here. Now this, you can see, that's the height, right? So you can see straight away there's a problem

 The market position of this microphone is a direct comparison to the Shure MV7, so what you're hearing right now is unedited and it's plugged directly through a USB Type-C from the back, as you can see, straight into my MacBook Pro. As far as I know, if you go to Kickstarter, I think it's around, it's not that expensive, let me go check. Okay so $139, okay so $30 off the retail, so retail is $169, so you compare that with the Shure microphone, and let's have a look at what you get. Very simple box, basically you get the microphone, the cables, which is a USB cable, and then you do get this very sturdy foot stand, and you do get a foam muff as well

 Was that on mute all the time? I think I pressed mute. Okay. See, that's the problem. You're accidentally pressing mute and you can't see the buttons and you don't know

 Are you getting a lot of pop? I think you are, and that's, I think, one of the problems with this microphone as well. If you're very close and you're very pronounced, the P's enough, you're going to get some pop. You can put this on. By the way, this thing is huge, right? It doesn't get in the way and not a very pretty thing, but let's see if it does work

Like always first hand unbiased unsponsored review of Maono PD400x microphone. I think their main competitor is targeted at the Shure MB7 and even SM7B. I actually quite like this mic apart from the issues mentioned in the video. I think this will be released later this month so could wait and see what other reviewers say. It is available on Kickstarter but 30$ off so if you want to buy it go ahead. I am not affiliated. also, buy at your own discretion. Let me know what you of the sound. 

As of the time of upload, I am using this for most of my videos and I place it about 40 degrees side of my mouth to avoid the POP noise (i don't like the look of the filter so I don't use it)

Maono PD400X HONEST Review - watch out SHURE MV7 ...

Hello there! I want to get started on podcasting and since I want to get an Scarlett 2i2 for my guitar recordings I thought to get one xlr microphone as well, and I wasn't ready for this hell of a rabbit hole of microphones.

To keep it short I think that a dynamic mic works better for me, and I was considering to get a Rode PodMic but I read that you have to set the gain up to 90% and it generates a lot of static so it's recommended to get a cloudlifter, but that's out of my budget, any suggestions?

Help choosing a dynamic mic for the Scarlett 2i2

 It sounds very clear for my calls, and I've actually gotten a couple compliments on it as well. That said, when I compare this with my Samson Q2U, the Samson sounds little crisper and cleaner. I mention this because the Q2U is less than half the price of the PD400x. Not a massive difference in the sound but was noticeable to me when I was testing them back-to-back

Good dynamic mic, but you can do better for less

 The mids are just going to be pretty much blowing up here, not too much. It is still a relatively pleasant increase, and it seems like it would be better for people with certain types of voices, so that's worth keeping into consideration. However, I've noticed that it handles plosives a little bit less amicably, I want to say, whenever it is in this setting, so that's what you should expect from that. And now this setting in particular is probably actually my least favorite of the bunch

 So this one is meant to compete directly with the Shure MV7. So introducing the Maono PD400X, this is both an XLR and USB microphone. So strap in, and let's dive right in. So while I let this unboxing run, I wanted to let you know that I will be recording this entire review with this microphone

 This is what it's going to sound like when there is just a little bit less low end, and I would say that honestly it does sound a little bit better than the flat setting, just because it sounds like it does have considerably more depth to it. Now this one here is going to be the mids boost switch, which is going to be immediately apparent. The mids are just going to be pretty much blowing up here, not too much. It is still a relatively pleasant increase, and it seems like it would be better for people with certain types of voices, so that's worth keeping into consideration

 It sounds like from about 1 foot away maybe and this is what you should expect out of it. So now we're going to get onto the noise floor test where I'm going to shut up and then you can just listen to everything that's going on around me. I have to say that sound projection with this microphone is really good. So in conclusion, this is a pretty good microphone, but you should really only get it if you like that darker and more broadcast sound overall because of most of your audio will be dominated by that particular sound stage

 The microphone looks and feels great but the side knobs needed to be turned so tight I was afraid they would snap off. The software is a nice feature and works good. It’s okay but not that great

 So this is a $150 microphone, and honestly from my testing, I can say it actually sounds really decent, like compared to some of my Rode microphones and compared to a lot of other microphones I've tested on this channel, this is a really, really nice sounding microphone, and it also is really premium in terms of the unboxing experience and just the quality of the materials and the way this microphone is built is really, really nice for your money. The whole thing is just really solid, it's metal, you have this base plate which attaches to the microphone. Now, I'm not like a massive fan of the base plate because it's too low on the desk, so you have to kind of hunch down in order to speak into the microphone because you're going to want to get pretty close. This isn't a microphone which is good at distance, so if I get further away, you can see it's definitely getting a lot worse and weaker and a lot more echo-y, so it's definitely a microphone you want in your face, and so I've got it mounted on this sort of boom pole right here, and this microphone actually has a screw mount on the bottom which is compatible with pretty much most universal microphone stands or microphone mounts, so it should be compatible with any 3 eighths or 5 eighths screw threads, and I've actually just got it mounted right on here which is usually where I have my shotgun microphone which is sort of out of frame, but considering I'm showing off, I kind of wanted it in frame just so you can actually see how it looks and how close I am to it

 So if we look at the bottom, the standard mode, which is the first indicator light, is flat mode. So that's what I'm recording in right now. If you press the button once, it will go into the middle light, and that will be your high pass filter enabled. So right now this is with the high pass enabled, and then the third option is your presence boost, so this is how it sounds with the present boost option turned on

 It's kind of a little bit like the Shure SM7B, a lot of people use that for podcasts, I believe Joe Rogan does. And so yeah, I like the build, I like the look, I like the audio quality, sounds good to me. The USB-C being in this microphone and all the controls, personally, yeah, this is definitely there's like a 10 out of 10. I like this microphone a lot

 So I don't really know there's any difference, there really shouldn't be, but XLR to me is a higher standard of recording and it's going to have better quality. But USB-C is also good of course, I just personally think XLR will sound a little bit better, but I could be wrong. Let me know what you guys think down in the comment section, what sounds better, USB-C or XLR? But yeah, I'm absolutely enjoying this microphone so much. Something I did find a little bit strange is all the controls are sort of upside down, so all of the icons are just the wrong way

Maono PD400X USB-C & XLR Dynamic Microphone Review

- XLR audio is solid when using my own XLR setup (vs same settings as my Logitech Blue Sona) the MAONO stands up fairly well against a mic roughly 2x the price

- Quality control on the finishing elements, specifically the base stands' pads, could be better (picture attached) The pads were there, but 2 of them had to be reseated (one of those was more toward the middle of the stand)

And just so you know how to say this properly, I know it can sound a little weird when I say the PD400X. It's not PD, not like Pete with a Y on the end, it's PD, not PD, PD400X

I feel like it comes in at a pretty solid price point also, especially considering that the Shure MV7 that usually goes for $269 is kind of on sale for $219 right now

Today, I have the new Maono PD400X Dynamic "Broadcast" microphone in the Audio Hotline Studio! I GO THROUGH A LOT OF STUFF IN THIS VIDEO.... LIKE A LOT! It's probably way too long! Regardless, I go through every detail about this mic and also take you through the software that comes with this mic. The PD400X kind of reminds me of a Samson Q9U mixed with a Shure MV7 when it comes to the look, but it does sound a bit different than either of those mics. Maono PD400X USB and XLR Mic Review (VS Shure MV7 ...

I like this mic a lot. But, when rating, I have to rate it against one I like a lot more. I previously obtained Logitech's Blue Sona mic, and it still blows me away. It's got better, richer sound than the Maono

 I previously obtained Logitech's Blue Sona mic, and it still blows me away. It's got better, richer sound than the Maono. It's got better discretion, in terms of not picking up ambient sounds. It's EQ features, particularly the presence boost are stronger

Excellent value mic. Good sound. Great connectivity.

 And then you've got the presence boost, which is the next one. So hit it again, you've got presence boost, which lifts up like around your 3-6k frequency, which is really where your vocals sit. And then that means that your voice just sits up a little bit higher than some of the other frequencies that the microphone is capturing, which might be helpful for you. So hit it again and you get both high pass filter and presence boost activated at the same time

 And just I'll let a few notes ring out and you can kind of get a feel for it. So this is probably about, you know, 20 centimeters away. I've got gain at about 50. Yeah, sounds right

 And you can also put on some compressor as well on the overall kind of signature. If you think you might be picking out a little bit, then you can start playing with these to kind of like just create guardrails around your audio. But generally, I'm not going to use those. And I think you can tell already from this kind of good deep sound that this is plenty good enough for a podcast

 And high pass filter just kind of blocks off a little bit of that bottom end. I'm not sure exactly which frequency that kind of stops off at, but it filters out a little bit of the bottom end boom. And then you've got the presence boost, which is the next one. So hit it again, you've got presence boost, which lifts up like around your 3-6k frequency, which is really where your vocals sit

The Maono PD400x Microphone is a great  condenser microphone and more affordable option than the Shure MV7 and SM7B. The build quality, software and sound are all top notch. USB-C and XLR option. Check out the sound tests in this video.
