So there you have it. That is my review of Marantz's NR1200 stereo receiver.

I recently was able to get my hands on a Marantz NR1200 to move past just TV speakers. Our living room doesn't have a lot of space, but I'm looking to add a pair of passive satellite or (compact) bookshelf speakers and a sub-woofer that provide me with sort of the best all-round listening experience for TV, music, and movies.

Marantz NR1200. Pro-Ject X1 ( pick it 2S MM ). The versatility and upgradability of the NR1200 is amazing and it sounds pretty decent too!

After building my system over the last year, I started upgrading separate components until I got to the point where my receiver was the weak link. I've been using the Marantz NR1200 to power a pair of Deftech Demand D9 bookshelf speakers, and while that was fine for awhile, my local record and gear shop got a pair of essentially new Monitor Audio Silver 500's in, so I traded some vintage gear in for them. The 75wpc sounded... fine. I can't drive them super hard anyway, since I live in an apartment, but after diving into a tube preamp, my dream turntable, and great speakers, the receiver just sounded meh.

Id go for decent receiver with pre-outs to add an external amp down the line. I ended up with the marantz nr1200 as it checked all the boxes although it's 700$ so depending on budget it may or may not be an option for you.
