My friend is thinking about getting a rifle that he can hunt deer with and some day teach his kid to shoot, and he said he thought my Marlin 336 in 30-30 was cool. He's right, it is cool, but being my first deer rifle I know the lever action and steel butt plate can be a bit uncomfortable for some kids. That got me making a list of soft shooting, so probably semi-auto rifles in a deer capable caliber on a budget.
