If you are on the lookout for a "best of the best" tent that has all the details to elevate your camping experience, the Marmot Torreya 6 is where it's at. The Torreya 6 is one of the highest quality tents we have had the pleasure of sleeping in and is the king of space and comfort. You get excellent ventilation without sacrificing too much privacy with enormous doors on either end of the tent and opaque mesh. The abundance of gear loops and practical pockets help keep everything tidy and organized. Although the vestibule is small, the tent has awning poles that lift the front wall into a shade cover and extend the livable space. Color-coded poles, backpacking-style stakes, and an easy clip-on rain fly make pitching this tent a breeze, and we were usually able to get it up and running in less than ten minutes.
As mentioned above, the vestibule is pretty small when it is staked down, and there is not much room for additional gear storage without bringing things into the tent with you. While we generally had very little trouble setting up this tent, we were a bit annoyed that the included guylines came separate from the rainfly, and tying them to the six different points on the fly almost doubled our initial setup time; luckily, it only needs to be done once. The Torreya 6 has a sturdy carry case, but it is still a large and heavy folded package. Overall, we love the Marmot Torreya 6, but the last consideration that may deter some families is the price. I see some like the Eureka Jade Canyon or Space Camp, but desire a little more quality. And an REI Kingdom 4 is a possibility, but some leaky rainfly reviews are scaring me off a bit.

What other recommendations have you got? I am seriously leaning towards a Marmot Torreya 4, but wish it were just a hair taller. Again, I could go up to the Torreya 6, but that is overkill.

Canvas, for now, is out. But when I retire, I'm sure I'll own one.

We are a family of four ages 10 and up, and a small dog and we are looking for a good tent. We live in Maine so it will need to work well for both hot days and cool nights and high humidity. 

I've never bought myself a tent and have mostly inherited them from others or we also had one as a wedding gift.

Best value tent for small family.

Hey gear enthusiasts. I'm hoping to tap into the collective knowledge on this subreddit to help me choose a tent.

A lifetime ago, I used to do tons of backcountry and expeditionary camping and knew the ins and outs of all the gear out there. But that was...a lifetime ago. Now as a 30-some-odd father of a five year old kiddo who is (finally) showing interest in camping, I'm in the market for a good six-person-ish tent.

I'd put in some research and finally settled on a tent; the Marmot Halo 6....only to discover they are discontinued and am now back at second-guessing between a few choices. I hope all of you more knowledgeable folks might help push me in the right direction.

*The specifics:* 

**Location**: We live in the PNW and are expecting to do about 70/30 camping along the coast of southern Washington, Oregon and Northern California, with occasional forays into the Cascades. As such, a big requirement is weather durability. I'm looking for a true 3-season tent that can stand up to rain as well as decent wind. We won't be camping in gale-force winds or anything, but pacific coast can have 20-30mph wind whip up with little warning.

**Occupants**: The tent needs to house two adults, a wiggly five year old and three (...yes, three) big (60lbs+) dogs. The dogs are great at camping so I'm not worried about them going through the mesh in search of squirrels or anything like that, but I do want the tent to be durable, especially on the floor, so errant dog nails don't turn the thing into swiss cheese.

Size-wise, I was thinking something along the 70-90sqft area. Enough to fit a queen air mattress, a cot/twin air mattress and a few dog beds. We set up my older Kelty 4.2 tent in the back yard and were able to get the humans comfy, but the dogs where left out in the metaphorical cold, so six-person tent seems to be the way to go. Gear storage is not a big concern, as we'll have the car nearby.

**Camping style**: Car camping all the way; the wife eye-daggered me to death when I suggested long-distance hiking with the five year old. As such, the tent is going to be primarily a place to hang out, sleep, maybe play a few games if the weather is crummy. We have tons of toys we bring along, but all of that is going to be living/on in the car and not the tent.

*The contestants:* So, due to the wind requirement, I eliminated high-rise tents like the REI Kingdom and Eureka Copper CanyonLX6 or other similar non-dome tents. 

I knocked out the North Face Wawona due to its focus on the big gear storage space at the cost of living space, and also because I read that its kinda crummy in rainy weather (a big no-no for costal climates).

I also knocked off pretty much all the Coleman tents because they seem to be pretty low quality. Lots of reviews and anecdotal folks saying they have cheap material, need long time to dry, can't keep up with multi-day camping trips, etc. Dunno if that's true...but that's why I'm here!

That left me with the aforementioned and discontinued Marmot Halo 6 (sad face) and REI Basecamp 6, the Marmot Limestone 6P and...ummm....yeah. Of the two, the Basecamp seems to be the better one, but neither is blowing me away like the Marmot Halo 6 did. 

Price isn't really a concern; I'd like to stick in the $600 or less range, but can go higher if there's something that's just the bees knees out there. I do want an emphasis on high quality, durable, and long-lasting.

So, my questions to all of you folks smarter than me - what's your recommendation for a six-person, 3-season, durable, high-quality car-camping focused family tent that can stand up to the weather of the pacific northwest. Are the Basecamp and Limestone really the only two main options? Are there others that I missed and should look at? Should I just buy two high quality 4-person tents and attempt to Frankenstein them together? (joking...I hope...)

I've been waiting to get into backpacking because light, packable gear is expensive. All my current gear, which I had to purchase at the beginning of the year after returning to the States was directed at car camping (because it's cheaper, and I had to buy all of it for a camping trip that was about 3 weeks out at the time).

I'm trying to decide on which tent to get to house myself (5'8") my girlfriend (5'7") and our Aussie pup (currently 45lbs, but will end up being closer to 55-65lbs as he's only 7 mo old right now). Which tent for car camping in WNC?

Hello friends, complete camping newbie looking for some recommendations on a tent.

I'm new to camping, though not new to the outdoors with many years of hiking, climbing, canoeing under my belt, but always day trips.  Once we hiked across the Grand Canyon in a day because we couldn't get accommodations at the bottom.  I want to eventually shift to multi-day trips and will be looking at different sets of gear for both ultralight and canoeing, but for now, we have some good friends that do a lot of car camping and feel like this is a good opportunity to get started and learn the ins and outs.

As I'm car camping, weight is not an issue so I was thinking of getting a 6 person tent to accommodate me, my wife and our 3 dogs (1 large (70lb), 2 medium(30lb)) with hopefully a bit of room to spare.

I was considering the following options, but would love to hear the advice of the experts who may have used some of these.  I live in Canada, so I don't have access to a REI, which is why none of their tents are listed, but  I'm open to other options.  We'll do 3 season camping, and durability is a factor -I'd like this to last a long time.

Car Camping Tent - 2 Adults, 3 dogs

First time planning a camping trip myself with my own gear!

Family of four, currently maxing out the floorspace in our Big Agnes Mad House 4 and looking to upgrade to a 6 person tent for car camping trips. 

I like the looks of the Mad House 6 but the price tag is probably out of reach. 

Which leaves five different options that all look almost identical from Big Agnes (Bunk House, Big House Deluxe, Big House, Dog House, Tensleep Station). Dog House seems to be the "entry level" but everything else is so close in price and looks it's hard to see much difference. Also considering the Nemo Wagontop. 

Any experience or insight on what differentiates the BA options? 

(Also...I know about the REI large tent options but I want to buy from a company that will repair/warranty for longer than a year, and have had great experiences with customer service from Big Agnes and Mountain Hardwear and Nemo so want to stick to a manufacturer with that kind of reuptation).
