Marmot or Eureka?

Poor door tautness prevents one handed unzipping

 It is a breeze to set up and it has got little extra features that make it a great value, like the included custom fit footprint. The whole Marmot Tungsten line has become a fan favorite over the past few years and it is easy to see why. I took it outside to get a closer look at all the features and I found it really easy to set up. One person can actually set it up lightning fast

 And if you stake out all the guy out points on the fly, you will get a little bit more ventilation. You can also open both vestibule doors to get a cross breeze. And when the clouds roll in, you can zip everything up and then just open the fly vents to prevent condensation. With all the features, the livability and the durability, it comes in at a competitive price point that is hard to beat

 The rain fly is made of polyester and it is completely waterproof. So I have no doubts that the fly will keep you dry. They use a material that has a perfect balance between durability and weight. So you can be confident in the durability without it weighing you down as you travel with it

 If you have a partner it will be manageable since you can split the weight. I would look at the Marmot Tungsten UL 4p (5lbs), Sierra Designs Meteor 4p (6lbs) or the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 4p (5lbs) for backpacking with a 4p tent if it fits the budget.

7 or 8 lbs is going to be really tough to carry on backpacking trips. If you are hiking by yourself you will defonately not want to carry that Marmot tent. If you have a partner it will be manageable since you can split the weight. I would look at the Marmot Tungsten UL 4p (5lbs), Sierra Designs Meteor 4p (6lbs) or the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 4p (5lbs) for backpacking with a 4p tent if it fits the budget

I have narrowed my choices down to these three. I am looking for a 4 person lightweight (under 9 lbs) tent that I can use for mild backpacking trips (few days) with my kids or a few friends that don't have their own tent.  I want something light enough that I can hike it in myself, but sturdy enough for 2 kids and maybe a dog. I would also like to not feel like I'm in a coffin if possible.  My kids are 10 and 6 and experienced base campers and hikers, but we are new to backpack camping.  We will mostly be backpacking in the Catskills or Adirondacks, anywhere from 1 to 3 or 4 days to start.  This is not for a few weeks on the Appalachian Trail.  Cost is not an issue, but I am not looking to spend $600 if I can get what I need for $300 and I can upgrade some other items with the savings.  Right now, most of our gear is base camp oriented and not backpacking.  I got a few of these suggestions from other posts in this Reddit.  I'm looking for help deciding and I am open to other suggestions I have not listed.  Thanks.
