 The Mercury 7 is a reverb unit that can be used as an incredibly creative tool. I really like products that can fit more than one niche really well, and the Mercury 7 does that for sure. You can use it as a traditional plate to sweeten up your 500 series portable channel that you're creating, or you can use it to create some really incredible spatial effects and sounds. It's almost like a filter or a modulation effect in itself

 The Mercury 7 is a really creative effect. It's a step above just slapping a plug-in on the situation, and it definitely has earned a place in my 500 series rack. I'm Matt Vanacora from Ask Audio, and I hope you dug checking out the Mercury 7 with me.

 I was a big fan of the 440 mic pre as really boutique mic pres in this format can get fairly icy.  That's the big thing, it stacks really well with other reverb. And lastly, I want to say that the Ultra Plate mode, because it's subtle but it's still a good stereo image, really is a great way to accentuate a mono reverb if that's your main reverb sound. So in one of the other clips that you'll be hearing in a minute, we are going to, we're going to use the Dark World as the main reverb sound, and then bring this in to kind of show that you can spread that reverb out a little more without this being the dominant sound. It can be used to accentuate or be your main reverb, and honestly, it's amazing at both

 I'll put three other delays and a reverb in front of it. And this thing triggers exactly where and when you want it to. It's amazing. The design on this is really, really good

Which stereo reverb pedal is your favorite and why?

 You You You So I grabbed this Marys Mercury 7 because it came up for sale nearby relatively cheaply I think So essentially here we've got two algorithms we've got the Ultra plate which is apparently is an inspiring and lush plate with a fast build and the Cathedral Which is a massive and ethereal algorithm with a slow build so I guess we could just So Those of you who know me will know that the Cathedral is probably what I'd be using most of the time I love long kind of lush reverbs like that and if you hold alt you can alter also the pre-delay if you wanted to have some kind of time before the Reverb kicks in Here we've got this low frequency thing so that's going to affect the amount of low frequency that we send into the algorithm And if you hold alt whilst turning it that's changing the reverb density This button here swells when you're on Cathedral Essentially means you freeze that reverb and give it like an infinite tail or you know not actually infinite but The really nice thing about that is that it doesn't stop the delay that's happening on your new notes that aren't freezed so I find that kind of annoying when that happens so like on the walrus audio slow that's the way that the freeze function works there It stops producing new reverb sounds whereas this kind of setup. I really prefer then we got this pitch vector thing So this is set off at the moment, but you can set this to Shimmer and I've got to say I don't love the way that sounding to me. It sounds like the shimmer is doing that thing which some shimmer reverbs do Where they don't really like some sorts of chords and they sound a bit clash in a little bit attitude modulate So it's modulation depth And then if you hold down alt or turn that you can change the modulation speed When you're holding down the alt function and turning mix this changes the mix of the pitch vector so you can turn like that octave or Whatever you get it set at down high frequency obviously is going to be turning down the amount of high frequencies You know so like shelving off some of that high end stuff and then if you hold down alt for this you can change the vibrato depth So those are basically the settings but Overall I'm liking the way that that particular Dubria sounding that algorithm the Cathedral listen to ultra plate a bit as well So Cathedral definitely the algorithm for me So obviously probably the thing that you're maybe thinking is surely could do most of this with a striman big sky Which we could probably get for a relatively similar price used maybe a bit more like 50 to 80 pounds more for the big sky I imagine a blue sky you get for a bit cheaper and the answer is more or less. Yes, and I think you'd also have kind of More presets and stuff like that as something that you're looking for but what it does Is relatively simple
