I have a MiniDSP 2x4 HD and a calibrated microphone. Cost me about 300€ together. I should have ordered the remote control as well, need to hack around it with a RPi now. Using digital in, say CD, massaging the signal in the lower frequencies to filter out "room amplification", then giving the signal to my Yamaha A-S 1000 and then to my Focal Chorus 726V has made a huge, huge difference.
