I'm looking for the perfect backpack, and although I've done a lot of research I can't seem to find the perfect fit. I'm planning to use the pack 90% of the time to commute to work and the gym. I just got out of college, am around 5'10"-5'11", usually commute by bike, travel by plane 5-6 times a year and have a decent amount of tech equipment. In general I'm looking for utmost functionality, but I think I've narrowed down my requirements in the following list (in order of importance to me):  


1. Volume 22-26L
2. Water resistant (ideally waterproof) materials
3. A lot of internal organizations pockets for all of tech (laptop, tablet, phone, charger, powerbank, eternal hdd, cable, headphones, wireless mouse, pens, keys etc) without need for tech pouch.
4. External lash straps for added carrying (jacket/bike helmet/tennis racket/shoes etc)
5. External waterbottle pocket (at least 1) for bottles/umbrellas
6. Back mesh/comfortable straps
7. Suitcase on passthrough/leash so I don't have to carry it on my back at an airport
8. Budget $100-$300
9. Clean looks and cool design/materials (not a ton of dangling straps, or overly preppy design)
10. Ideally three compartments (one for clothes, one for tech and one for various things
11. Compression straps, so it isn't super bulky if empty
12. Some sort of quick/side access pocket to use while wearing.

So far I've found the following that might be a good fit, but I'm not sure which one is best and it seems like each of them has some drawbacks:

* Boundary supply errant: Seems like the best fit, but has only one waterbottle pocket and reviews are not great (annoying toploading closure system &amp; limited space)
* Remote Equipment Charlie 25m: Seems like a decent fit, but has way too many dangling straps and not too many little pockets.
* Peak Design Every Day backpack zip: This also seems close to the perfect fit, but no way to reduce volume if empty and it seems impossible to fit longer items if necessary (keyboard/tennis racket).
* Evergoods Civic half zip: This looks good but there are not lash straps and internal organization seems limited.
* Nomatic backpack: This also offers most of what I'm looking for, though there are no lash straps, and the design seems a bit weird to me.
* Axiom 24: Looks great but internal water bottles, lack of straps and expensive price
* Heimplanet traveller 28: offers everything I'm looking for but is a bit too large for me.

Is there any bag that I'm missing and fits those requirements?

Does anyone have one of the bags listed and feels like it could fit me well?

Looking for perfect EDC bag

Basically what the title says. I have two more semesters in school, but I would like to have a nice bag for after I graduate and get a big kid job. I would also use the bag for the occasional short trip when I go visit my girlfriend. Typically won't be longer than 4-5 days. Anything longer than that and I would bring a duffel bag. 

The things I would typically carry are my laptop, Ipad, book, notepad, some pens, waterbottle, and other little miscellaneous things.

I like the Waterfield Bolt bag, but haven't found much else that I like.

I'm trying to start a packing list for digital nomads and there are many out there, however, they are typically for creators / photographers / designers etc... and many of them don't include tech gear to work comfortably. 

As a Software Engineer I'm trying to create a packing list for one-bag travel but I would like some help because I think the needs to work comfortably are slightly different, for example for me two must have items are a laptop stand that is lightweight and foldable, a 60% mechanical keyboard (I know it's heavy, bulky and probably unnecessary but I make less mistakes typing and I type probably twice as fast) and a mouse. 

Therefore, my question is, what is your must have item (ignore the obvious like laptop, clothes, backpack etc) to work as a digital nomad?

In the end I'll consolidate everything, try it myself during my next trips this month and post a packing list in the sub!

I am currently a graduate school student who needs a EDC backpack. I carry the standard student gear: laptop, textbooks, water bottle, etc. I also live in a big city, so I would use it for weekend city exploring with my camera.

I also have the opportunity to travel fairly frequently. These trips are usually just a few days or as short as a weekend getaway. However, packing in a backpack as small as 15L just doesn't work. Whereas, a travel bag is often cumbersome for daily use.

For those who aren't constantly traveling (ie. digital nomads):

Have you found one bag that works for both your EDC and travel needs? Or do you use one bag for EDC and a different bag for travel?
