Hi, my name is Zack and I am headed into my 7th season here at Powder 7.  Today we are going to talk about one of my favorite, small, United States based ski companies- Moment Skis.

Moment was not only one of our first boutique brands here at Powder 7 but one of our first brands in general.  Moment has become recognized over the years for their innovative designs, detail in production and some of the raddest graphics on the Market.

Today we are going to highlight two of Moment’s most sought after models: The Deathwish and the Wildcat (formally known as the Bibby Pro).

The Deathwish is perhaps the most unique ski in the lineup and also hands down, my favorite.  From the specs it is easy to tell that the Deathwish is 112mm underfoot with a moderate flex profile.  What the topsheets of the ski don’t tell you is that this was the ski that received Moment’s first ever Triple Camber Technology.  Moment is the only company that I know of has actually created a new camber profile.  

When you view the skis back to back, you can see that it is a ski that has rocker tip and tail with camber underfoot, however the wizards at Moment decided to toss another camber position before and after where the binding would be mounted. Think of it as a serrated knife with powerful contact points in the snow allowing the ski to carve, but flat areas of camber allow the ski to remain floaty and pivot easily. This makes the Deathwish the best excuse for a 1 ski quiver over 110mm underfoot.

For diehard Moment fans, it will take a while to get used to the lack of the Bibby name in the lineup but please don’t panic, the ski is still around- it is now just called the Wildcat.  At 116mm underfoot with what I believe to be a rather stiff flex for a ski without metal- the Wildcat is your go to big mountain powder ski.  Of course there are 135mm underfoot Pow skis out there but how many days a year do the conditions actually warrant that?  We will leave those skis for folks who prefer to only ever drop out of a heli into 2+ feet.  The Bibby is super floaty when you want it to be but also precise and nimble when you need to bend the skis in tight places or get out of a sticky situation.

Hey, I'd like to buy a 2nd pair of skiis for myself.

Currently i have a twintip Armada El Ray 185cm 125-89-115 21m radius but I'd like to get something with more floatation for powder and offpiste. 

Looking at something with a 100-110 mm waist. It should be rockered front and rear twintip budget is 700€. 

Im 187cm and 75 kg and i want to have a playful ski which shouldnt be hard to pop with. 

Looked at Mindbender 108 ti but id like something with a bit more twinned rear.

Wanting to buy a 2nd pair of skiis

I could use some help choosing a pair of skis.  I am a 5'10 male weighing 170.  I've been skiing backcountry only for the last few years and want to get a set up for inbounds.  I have a pair of 115 underfoot x 186 length powder skis that will be getting inbounds bindings mounted so whichever ski I go with would be my "all mountain" ski used for moguls, steep inbounds chute hiking, and playing around on little jumps and drops on the side of trails.  My understanding is the K2s will charge a bit better through crud while the Bent Chetlers will be more playful and easier to turn and take into the air.  Since I have some powder skis to compliment them I'm leaning toward the Bent Chetler but I'd love to hear some other opinions and am open to other ski suggestions.  FYI I was considering the Mindbenders in length 179 and the Bent Chetlers in 180.

Help me decide between K2 Mindbender 108 and Atomic Bent Chetler 100

Moment Deathwish 104. With the most promising seeming to be the M Frees. Really just want the best fit though.

 When I moved out hear i though I’d being skiing a lot more pow days and started with the wide skis. During the Jan/Feb dry spell, I did not like the performance of wide skis on groomers.

Wide Skis and Your Knees: Bigger Isn't Always Better

Trying to figure out which of the above is the most important for handling choppy snow later in the day. My wife really struggles in choppy snow and feels like she's getting knocked around and going to fall. I've learned to adapt and have a much better athletic stance with bent knees absorbing bumps but also my skis are solidly intermediate/advanced (Rossi Experience 86 Basalts). My wife is on much narrower and lightweight flex beginner/intermediate  skis (Rossi Nova 4 CA Piste skis). 

I've been telling my wife she probably needs wider skis but I'm starting to doubt myself now and think the stiffness and weight of my skis actually makes me power/blow through late day chop more than the width is helping me float over it. 

As for my wife's technique. My wife actually skis quite a bit faster than me by default but as I said she's a bit too upright which I know doesn't help (she's working on it). Definitely does skidded turns more than leaning carving but somehow she makes it look elegant and doesn't even have the concept of being forward in the boot. The skis have always turned for her with minimal input in a way that almost looks impossible to me. They are 163 in length and come almost to her nose so about right in height. She doesn't actually fall that much (here and there) but has a very unpleasant time on choppy snow while I'm having a blast unless it's really hard pack.

Dude if you’re looking for hard charging twin tips then moment deathwish is your ski. They’re just a killer one ski quiver on hard pack and firm snow. They’ll crush it for you in the west. They’ll charge hard on groomers and be great in powder

I’m looking for something with twin tips, more playful with around a 100mm waist to handle some soft snow, but won’t get beat up in a season. Anyone know if sir francis bacons hold up? I’m interested in these, candide 2.0’s, and black crow camox’s. I typically like to charge pretty hard on piste but want something I can hit some powder with and play around with more. (budget isn’t endless, I’m a college student)

I typically ski in Western North America, notably Idaho, Utah, and California.
