My beauty routine for the past 10 years has mostly consisted of whatever I could get for less than $10. 

I recently leveled up in my career and have disposable income for the first time in my life. I'm finding I just can't pull together the look I want professionally with my expired, low-end drugstore kit. I'm reaching a phase where I can finally switch from "sort price: low-high" to finding staples that are best for me! 

 I want to start investing in higher quality beauty staples, but am not sure where to start. 

What product would you 'level up' first? What switches made the biggest shift to the quality of your appearance? 

I'm more interested in boutique brands and supporting small businesses than luxury/high-end, btw!

Where did you start shopping when you could first afford to look?

Got a pay raise and can afford non-drugstore products for the first time in my life. Where should I start?

I've been using the NARS Sheer Glow foundation in Santa Fe for about 2 months now and I do like it but it's not perfect and I probably won't buy it again. Before using this foundation, I never gave much thought to my skin type because no foundation I've ever used has been negatively affected by whatever type my skin is. However, this SG foundation absolutely highlighted all the negative things about my skin like inconsistent texture, dry skin patches, and oily patches. I learned that I have combination skin and my T-zone gets fairly oily during the day while my cheeks, chin, and between my eyebrows are dry

 I have oily skin everywhere and dry flakey skin on my chin, between my eyebrows and on the pimples of my forehead. Don't buy this product unless you have absolutely perfect skin and only want a little bit of coverage. I do not recommend if you need full coverage everyday like me.

What’s something “trendy” that isn’t popular anymore but you still swear by?

This is exactly what i was looking for my Sephora and ulta were both out of stock of the color i needed as well as the websites so i went to amazon like any rational human these days. So i get it its great i love that its shear and buildable its the right color and its not too heavy! However idk if i will ever know if it’s actually NARS because this is the 1st time I've used it, i feel like i could get something similar and waaaay cheaper at the drugstore but idk 🤷🏼‍♀️
