$3000 budget for some gear upgrades. Suggestions?

  So the TLM 102 doesn't compare at all to the TLM 103 sadly. For vocals, it is very obvious the TLM 103 will tackle the job better- in every single way. Upon using the TLM 102, you'll notice the overall sound is "flat" which isn't necessarily bad. A flat sound provided can offer increased singing confidence as the mic fails to pick up on the accurate pitch

  In conclusion the TLM 102 Mic will make your set-up look gorgeous, it's sleek and matte finish really does shine. If it wasn't for my "professional hearing" I would rate this mic 5/5 stars, unfortunately for me this is not the case and instead felt a bit let down on its performance. Though great for anything, it won't excel with everything.

The microphone itself looks great, it is an attractive condenser mic with a well implemented design, compact enough to not take up a lot of a space- yet large enough to capture every sound.  The sound quality is compareable* to your standard 700.00 value microphone, I'm not going to upsell what the sound offers because again, it is compareable to other microhpones for the same value yet automatically you know your paying for the brand. Neumann has a decent reputation, it's something to purchase just because it's Neumann, the "Porsche" of microphones

A very attractive microphone with a performance catch

 Now the TLM-102 is my daily driver, along with the Shure SM58. And that's because it suits all my needs. Now I know that the TLM-102 is a bit pricey. But to be honest, it's one of the most natural, smoothest sounding microphones that you could find at this price or lower

 I say that because a lot of cheap condenser microphones that are in the $100 or even $200 range have this really bright sound to them. And it makes it unusable in the recording. It's like a very shrill, hurts my teeth kind of ears sound. I don't know, when I hear high pitch sounds they hurt my teeth, they ring in my teeth, I don't know

 That's weird Stefan, thank you for sharing that information. But yeah, it's a very unpleasant sound and when it's time to mix it, at first you go, oh man this sounds great because humans, we are attracted to bright sounds or bright colors or light. So we think it sounds really good and then when you start mixing it, it sounds, you just hear a bunch of high frequencies and the recording is just unusable. I don't know if I explained that well enough, but you know

 Here I have my Shure SM58 and it just towers over this little guy. And we all know that the Shure is as portable as portable gets, I mean with it being a gig microphone and all. And there's no denying that the Neumann TLM-102 could probably fit in your pocket. And no, you probably shouldn't do that

Can be a decent mic with the right voice. 4 - Neumann TLM 102 ($700): Getting into a good sound here now. Nice body, fairly airy, but not too much. Shines when hitting some lower notes but not overbearing when hitting high notes

My first impressions of this microphone were that I thought it was a toy, small enough to put into your pocket and off you go, when I tried it out, the sound quality was flat, it sounds great on dialogue, it doesn't sound like anything special on most singing vocals to my knowledge, doesn't have that punch, for that price I'm not impressed, they're are much better options out there, even for an entry level microphone, I feel that most of the neumann quality and more serious technology has gone into the TLM 103 and the U87, which are alot more expensive, mind you, anyways I expected better from a big name like Neumann, cheers everyone.

Hit or Miss !

 Full disclosure, I did buy this mic directly from Neumann at a small discount for the sake of doing this review. And for this review, I'm connecting the mic directly to the Scarlett 2i2 2nd gen with the 48 volts phantom power on, and my gain at around 50%.  As far as the construction, it does have an all-metal body, a metal grill, which is what you would expect, and it does have a decent amount of weight to it. Now I was surprised to see how small this thing was, and here's a comparison of the size to a BM800, and as you can see, it is quite a bit shorter than that mic. As you move around the mic, there are no features on there, but on the bottom you will find the XLR port. As far as specs, this thing has a cardioid polar pattern, a frequency response of 20 hertz to 20 kilohertz, a sensitivity of approximately negative 39 decibels, a max SPL of 144 decibels, an impedance of 50 ohms, and a phantom power requirement of plus 48 volts

TLM 102 is a great mic for the price. People like to hop interfaces every few years but you’ll keep a good mic forever. Bigger audible leap than the Apollo.

Hey im 15 I make my own music and saved up money for a while and now im ready to choose a upgrade. Im kinda set on the actual equipment I wanna get but if anyone has suggestions ill take them.

My current setup is a Focusrite Solo 3rd Gen, Rode NT1, and a Kaotica Eyeball. I just want my vocals so sound more professional so its nice and easier to mix, but I don’t really know what I should get to accomplish that. i know mics have frequency charts and thats why they are different. But i don’t know what’s different about audio interfaces, besides better latency is there any audio quality differences? Let me know what I should get. i record, mix, and master all my own stuff and if I don’t make it as a artist I’ll definitely be a audio engineer.

What should I get? Buy a tlm102 or a Apollo Twin USB

I don’t dislike anything about this Microphone. This microphone works terrific with singers giving the vocalist warmth and clarity to their voice.

I 'd like people with expertise to let me know what are the key differences between the two mics and which one would you go for mentioning the use case of course.

I'm not an audiophile, I make music just for fun. Sometimes I'll have friends come over and have them on the mic. So, it's mainly vocals. I'm mainly looking for the one that is going to give me that crisp, clear, smooth sound without being too harsh.

Deciding on these two mics because these are what my favorite artists use.
