Nikon D3300! Congratulations on picking one up or congratulations!

The Nikon D3300 is a solid entry-level SLR. It's geared towards photographic neophytes, and its Guide setting is a good way for folks who don't have the desire to learn the ins and outs of camera jargon to capture life's moments in high quality. Its image quality is very good, even in low light, and even though the bundled zoom has some issues with distortion and doesn't capture as much light as others, it's a good starter lens

I’d say go with the Nikon D3400 if it comes with the lens kit with both lenses. I’ve used the Nikon D3300 from my gf and she lends me the canon T7. Out of the two, (given that the T7 is much newer), the Nikon D3300 has a better autofocus or at least much quicker and more focus points than the T7. I’d only assume that a T5 is a bit lower than the T7 and since I’ve had a great experience with the Nikon, I’d go with the D3400.

I made the mistake of first buying the Nikon D3300, it only has one control wheel and like you I like to have control of the aperture and shutter (ISO is not as important, any camera you will have more control than putting in a roll of film). I quickly sold the D3300 and got the D7200 which has the two wheels. I dont know about the Fuji line but if you already have some nice glass maybe you can find a body that it will fit on. I have a two very nice lenses that are from the film days.
