 But it's positioned toward the front, to the point where most tripod release plates will extend outside the confines of the camera body. This isn't a problem with native lenses, as they don't extend that far downward.

 I don't have any F-mount Tamron lenses on hand to confirm, but have spoken to others who are dealing with an error message and lack of autofocus when trying to use a Tamron lens with the FTZ. Tamron says it is working on a solution.

 And it works well, matching the performance of native lenses on the Z 7 with which we tested it.

Before Nikon moved to internal focus motors it utilized a screw-drive system for autofocus. These AF and AF-D lenses are still compatible with many SLRs, and while you can use them with the FTZ, they'll be restricted to manual focus.

<p>However, I’m going to Iceland in June and have been eyeing the 70-200 z. With taxes it runs close to 3k my thought is that for 2k I could get the f mount 14-24 and 70-200 and an ftz.</p>

<p>Am I crazy for even bothering with the f lenses at this point. I had a d810 and I love and appreciate the f mount glass...but I’m on the z train. Need help!</p>

FTZ am I crazy?

 Nikon engineers clearly did not think this thing through when the slapped this design together; they did the least they had to do.

 Also, the tripod foot should have been removable as other manufacturers do. When setting this down on a table the camera, adapter and lens do not sit flat on the table and can wobble and move around. Has anyone used the FTZ adapter? If so how has it worked? Would hate to move into mirrorless down the line and not be able to use my current lenses.

 For a longer lens, that isn’t such an issue. For a macro lens, this is pretty troubling. At least the focus indicators on the Z7 are easier and faster than my old full frame Nikon body.

Not what I’d hoped for

The two hour battery life is an egregious under estimate. I've done over 1k shots spread over 6+ hours on a battery before changing it early. Just don't keep live view on full time and the power draw is similar to a DSLR at idle.

I need help deciding between a Nikon D780 vs making the jump to a Z6. I currently own a Nikon D750 and I am semi-pro (not my full-time job but I get some income in via photos/video). My gigs as of late requires more and more video work so I want to upgrade to a more capable camera.  One of the most annoying things is that the D750 doesn’t work very well with the DJI RS2 (can be balanced but no camera control access).

Most threads I read say a Z6 is superior but given that:

* I have a bunch of F mount Lenses
* I will be using it with the DJI RS2 gimble
* I don’t intend on buying any new Z lenses (i have high end F mount lenses)
* The 2 hour battery lift on the Z6 seems concerning, I tend to shoot events and keep my DSLR on most of the time (could be up to 8 hours)
* I have extra batteries compatible with the D780
* My primary passion is still with photography (not video)

Would be curious to what everyone else would do in my situation.

Nikon D780 vs Z6 for existing non-pro users

Works well with modern lenses, but not with old ones

 I can see the focus distance gauge moving back and forth very small amounts and hear the motor constantly activating. I noticed this is particularly an issue with textured surfaces and in low light, but also occurs frequently in well lit conditions when focusing on high contrast text. This is an issue on both of my lenses. I don't have any others I can test at the moment
