 With the bell right next to it, you could tell how compact this pedal is, but it also gives you a lot of control like that bass cut, so let's stick with the neck P90 and dial the tone, or in this case, the color back a little bit, and it just really tightens everything up. There we go. Well, we've got the bell here, let's try a little bit more bass cut with humbuckers and also try on the side that button that changes the clipping and the dynamics and compression. Now let's open things up and engage that switch on the side

 But I'd like to turn your attention to something fresh out of the gate from George Trips and Way Huge Electronics, the STO. Trips does his own magic with his classic circuit, with the input circuit using an FET op-amp instead of a discrete JFET circuit, and he swaps the 4558 op-amp for a 4741. With all these new pedal variations, they all seem to share the same goal of avoiding that mid-bump and creating an overdrive that sounds as natural as your amp just cranked up. And with it back, it's not as muddy as a lot of those traditional high-cut filters

Trying to figure out my "always on" first gain stage. Something that is dynamic and warm, cleans up with volume and picking attack. Suggestions welcome!

 Yeah, that's great. So I probably wouldn't want the bass cut on with the Broadcaster or Italia or Estrada or something like that, because you don't really need it. But with something that's big and bold and round like these pickups and this guitar, definitely I would be employing it, I think. Let's go to the old deluxe reverb and try that experiment again

 I want this to end. It's a good thing. That's about where I like it, say 10 o'clock, 2 o'clock, you know, 11.30, 12 o'clock

 So now I'm going to open it up and flick the little switch with this screwdriver to turn the bass cut on, and we'll see what the difference is. Okay, so the bass cut is now on. Oh yeah, much tighter. Much tighter

I play a strat and a jazz chorus amp, indie type stuff mostly, lots of reverb, delay, and flanger/chorus. I'd like to add an overdrive pedal to add just a little bit of breakup here and there, but im lost on what to get. I was initally thinking tube screamer, but Ive heard those are more meant to push tub amps. Any recommendations? The bands I like use the OCD and that yellow Boss OD from what I can see
