Picky about microSD cards

 Realizing that these things need occasional replacement even with my modest use, I then purchased the WS-853 which was more affordable. I immediately noticed that playback through the built-in speaker was scratchier than with the older, more expensive model. Recently I wanted to use the new recorder to record a phone call. I thought I got the recording, but later could not play it back

 It remains to be seen whether the batteries will retain charge long enough to be ready at those rare moments when I really need the recorder.

 It seems likely that dead batteries may often stop me from getting important recordings in the future. I have now been able to charge the batteries again, and they seem to hold the charge at least for a couple of days.  I appreciate the ability to change batteries (two-AAA required) and the battery life is good. Overall, I had hoped for a more responsive product for the $.  Made in Vietnam

A Major Improvment Over Older Models, Even with Drawbacks

I purchased the identical product over six years ago - this rating is based on that recorder. I use it primarily to record my Sunday sermons which I upload to a web page. About a month ago, the USB connector gave signs of internally failing - the device was not recognized by the computer. After some insertions, finally was able to get it to work

Reliable Recorder

 More often, the button that's hit is OK/PLAY, and suddenly one of my recordings is being broadcast straight from my handbag. Even popping the thing into a small neoprene bag hasn't prevented this situation. (Many colleagues have this model and the same praise/gripe.)  So here's my advice

One major design flaw

  Based on what I read, it seamed like for the price point the Olympus was the way to go. No real complaints thus far

Great reseller (timely), and I like this device. May end up loving it. Would benefit from a better manual.

 I change the rechargeable batteries daily, with time to spare. The sound quality is better than that of the action cameras, so for an important video I replaced the audio track with the audio from this recorder. This unit replaces Sony recorders that I've used for 10 years, and it is designed better. I do not use the external jacks but agree with others that they should not be on the side

Works fine for 24x7 recording.  Well designed.
