I've extensively used the OnePlus Nord 2, and it's barely any different from OxygenOS 11. The only things that have changed are the camera app(for the better as OnePlus camera processing sucks) and there's some settings menu shuffling. OxygenOS already was too far gone from AOSP and was basically very similar to ColorOS even before the codebase merger. It's not like they switched from Pixel UI to MIUI.

But the more I use the OnePlus Nord 2, the more I think that this is the phone that fits that description much more accurately. From its screen, to its cameras, its processor, and its software, the Nord 2 feels like a flagship phone stripped of any unnecessary features. There’s no Hasselblad-branded cameras, just a reasonably specced set of sensors

I just bought a OnePlus Nord 2 but it has on major flaw - it is overheating even during 'normal' use (browsing, socials etc.). I'm not used to this at all, as my old Honor 9 was never heating (or at least in very rare occasions) while being very fluid. Is it normal for a 2021 smartphone to overheat?

If you're able to afford something like the OnePlus Nord 2 and its variants, the A52 isn't that far off, adjacent price brackets. Almost all Samsung A phones run One UI the full version. Even if you can't use the native version, there's always Samsung Flow.
