Looks interesting, but man that stylus seems to have more lag than the note taking app on my Boox Note 2. If the price is right, this would maybe be a good fit for my girlfriend; though not being able to run the Kindle app on it might be a deal breaker. I’d have to check with her. She mostly wants a high quality note taking device with great battery life: she loves my Note 2 but balks at the price lol

Announcing the new Kobo Elipsa

 I couldn't get the brightness and tint to a level that didn't hurt my eyes and lead to headaches. I found it much better to just use dark mode on my Samsung Android tablet instead. Hopefully the technology will improve over the years.

 There are also large borders around displayed book, which takes up valuable screen space. I found it frustrating to use at night to read anything. If you want color and work with a lot of PDFs go with an iPad. Most people will probably disagree with me, considering you are asking on r/ereader. ;)

I personally use a Boox Note Air, which is a 10" b/w e-ink tablet. It's fantastic for reading books and working on PDFs, especially outside or in natural light. But there's a lot of tweaking to be done to get there compared to an iPad or Android tablet.

I don't get eye strain using an iPad or an e-ink tablet, I just prefer the amazing look of an e-ink screen. 

As for color e-ink, it's still early, so there's a lot of ghosting issues with the colors. And also, current color tablets have 300dpi for b/w and 100dpi for color. The colors will look washed out and dim.

I would say, if you have the money, want newspaper like color for your content, but mostly read black and white in natural light, a color e-ink device will work for you.

Anything else, go with an iPad.

Completely subjectively, I get a bit frenzied using lighted screens.  I think it's more association than having light shine in my eyes.  I got my Nova Pro to get away from normal screens and that whole headspace, to relax & focus more.  I actively hold that device and space by the apps I have installed on it.  It's basically in DND mode all the time.

I'm very happy with mine.

Currently I am trying to decide between an iPad or an e-ink colour reader for the sole purpose of reading books, but also a lot of .pdfs and eBooks with colour and images.

Considering the price between the e-ink color readers and the iPad are similar, it seems to be a decision based on the functionality. I've read a lot of posts on this subreddit about them, and many people have said there are issues with the e-ink color readers so I'm now a bit hesitant.

My main reason for wanting one of these is because supposedly the e-ink technology is "easier on the eyes" and "reduces strain for longer reading sessions" so I would definitely want to buy this, but I'm not sure if this still applies to the color e-ink readers! 

My question is, who here has a color e-ink reader and has had a positive experience with it?

Anyone happy with their color e-ink reader?

 How is it possible that books won't turn work/page turn on Onyx's own native apps? I'll admit that I am completely clueless as to how all of the reviewers are loading, opening, and marking-up PDFs with a native app. I had to download XODO to mark-up/underline with the stylus. Trying to open PDFS on the Boox natively results in not being able to turn pages as well. Adobe Acorbat works fine, but you have to underline, there isn't really a highlighting function

I wonder which is the tougher ereader nowadays. I guess it is a device with flexible substrate under its screen, but I've seen a video of a Kobo Elipsa bending test  and now I doubt.

Is there any news about the fragility of the Kobo Elipsa? Because Onyx is only sold from China and you can't hope they return your money if one of their ereaders stop running. Of course, if the screen break, Kobo doesn't return the money either.
