I jumped the gun because my old phone was losing battery life. The inter-year generation jumps have quality improvements are slower than before, but we still see improvements in battery, screens (120 Hz is now common on high end phones and Oppo is bringing a 10 bit display with the Find X3 Pro), camera (optical zoom and larger sensors along with some software improvements to computational photography), and the modest SOC jumps (although the 888 is very power hungry).

It started with desktop CPUs and GPUs, now it's spreading everywhere.

Damn man, I got my 6800 XT for 850.- here, now it's freaking 1500.- imagine this happens to phones and other electronics...

This year won't get any better, it's just getting worse

Obviously nobody cares about this tech until once their favorite brands have it, they'll then proclaim it to be a game changer within the industry and thus make their fave brand the best device to ever be made. All the while, Oppo/ZTE will just be forgotten footnotes once that time comes, sadly.

I cannot wait for these sorts of phones to be more readily available. The axon 30 is a nearly 7 inch phone, and I'm already finding my 6.4 inch phone uncomfortable. Once every phone has cameras like this it's going to be so much better. No more notches or hole punches, no more pop up cameras to ruin your water resistance and add cost. 

I think my dream phone would be the pixel 5, with a bit of a better processor and one of these under display cameras. Those are the only things I'd change (except a headphone jack, I still use it!).

What about OPPO get a grip in the first place and provide regular updates at least for their flagships? My UK X3 Pro is stil on FW A19 and June security patch. 

Love the device but support (and customer service repeating like an old record that there's no information about UK updates available) is not enough. Not for this price and not after their 'monthly' update promise.

Oppo announces ‘next-generation’ under-display selfie camera

7 million on other devices. The Find X3 Pro software even includes eye tests to help the display compensate for various forms of color blindness.

The Find X3 Pro’s overall performance is as good as you’d expect from any other Snapdragon 888-equipped flagship. Oppo’s ColorOS skin is far snappier than it used to be, to the point that OnePlus itself is using it for phones in China now. The 4,500mAh battery doesn’t quite make this a two-day phone, but I never had any problem getting through a single day of heavy use.

From the front, the Find X3 Pro looks almost identical to the OnePlus 9 Pro. Both phones have a 6.7-inch 1440p 120Hz curved OLED screen with a hole-punch selfie camera in the top left; since Oppo and OnePlus share a supply chain, it’s almost certainly the same Samsung panel. 

 Granted, zoom lenses are never the best-quality optics on a smartphone, but this feels like a step back from the 5x unit on last year’s Find X2 Pro. You could make the case that a 2x zoom is more versatile because it improves the quality of shots between 2x to 4.9x, but why not include both?

Phone cameras aren't exciting anymore. Most companies offer the standard wide, super-wide and telephoto lens options. The Find X3 Pro packs an extra treat though in the form of a microscope camera that offers a huge amount of magnification for tiny details.

The microscope camera isn't the only camera to be excited about, though. The whole setup on the back of the phone can take excellent shots. The main 50-megapixel camera takes images with great exposure and colors, while the super-wide angle lens uses the exact same 50-megapixel image sensor, meaning there's no drop in image quality, exposure or color when you switch between the two views.

 For a start, its 3,160x1,440-pixel resolution means it's absolutely pin-sharp. It's bright enough to be clear when you're outdoors and its 120Hz refresh rate makes it buttery smooth when swiping around.

It played Asphalt 9: Legends with smooth frame rates and handled image editing in Snapseed without any issue. There's little you'd be able to throw at this phone that would slow it down.
