my dad uses my grandmothers old blender almost every night to make a milkshake

 $10 for a replacement every year is bad and gets worse if Oster discontinues them. Motor and everything else has held up fine.  ___________________  Summary:  Very good Vitamix clone with a low profile jar for a much cheaper price and a 7 year warranty. Passed all tests I put it through and the only real con is longevity

 Raw carrots--gone. You can not find chunks or parts of spinach/kale after blending. For people who say that that a vitamix/blentec produces a better smoothie, I don't think they would pass double-blind testing. I don't think it's possible to blend something more than what this delivers and certainly not for double the price

 Blended raw vegetables down to a frothy soup. 187F was the temp I recorded when done so you will get steamy "soup." I put the parentheses there because I believed the hype that these high performance blenders actually made soup. I would call it a hot, raw soup

 Remove some items then continue blending. (Turning the dial to "preset / pulse" mode, the light will glow red like normal. Unit will seem to be ready to blend but not respond to controls until unloaded more.)

Hey Im a college student who needs to save money as much as possible. Im looking to buy a blender and thought this would be a good place to ask. I plan to make some sauce like pesto sauce, smoothies, ice cream and also vegan/healthy alternatives like vegan parmesan and oat flour. Nutri bullet and magic bullet are one of the cheapest options i could find. Are they actually good? is there any other blenders you would recommend? The cheaper the better it is for me. Thx!

 Apple juice with ginger and tumeric root: No problem blending it but it stained the container yellow. Avocado seed in a smoothie: (I know, weird right) Smoothie setting did not do it so I left it about another 30 sec on high and it heated up my smoothie and still left big chucks of the seed. After a week with this machine I was at Costco and the Blendtec Total Blender (looks like the 575) was on sale for $279 and the Vitamix 5300 Blender was on sale for $339 so I bought one of each to compare. The Blendtec was much smaller and fit under my counters but was useless at the coconut and sunflower butter jobs

A Tale of 3 Blenders.

This is a detailed review because I shopped long and hard for the perfect "affordable" blender for home and business and maybe my review can help others: I have been a Vitamix user for 20 years. I don't see Vitamix as a "blender." It is so high powered that it turns smoothies into airy froth and it heats up veggies into frothy soups. Plus Vitamix was exclusive and expensive when it began but it has led the way for other companies to perform better so now, though it tries to compete with the prices of its competitors, it is still one of the most expensive brands

 I am an herbalist and demonstrate food preparations. Sometimes I need all that power but mostly I do not. So, I decided to get an efficient blender (with a glass-- instead of plastic -- "basket" ) for everyday kitchen use and a more commercial machine for processing herbs. roots

 It is NOT a dependable work horse. I have always been able to depend on the Oster Brand. I would have done better simply purchasing $60 -- $80 Oster Blender with a GLASS basket (I try to avoid the use of any plastics in food management as they are ALL processed with toxic or carcinogenic chemicals -- not just the BPA -- the less we use them, the better) for general kitchen use and a commercial non-plasticized tempered glass or stainless steel machine for heavier work.

 Well, having never used a Vitamix before I dont know about comparable but I do know that I dont particularly like it (but I dont particular hate it either). First of all, know that this blender is LOOOOUUUDDDD. First time I used it, my daddy in the other room asked me if an airplane was getting ready to take off. Truly, it's really really really LOUD!! It does chop ice well and its easy to clean

 When I go to one of the local smoothie shops, I get fruit and ice only no turbinado or honey or other additives and they taste GREAT!!!. Doing the same at home, just using fruit and ice (sometimes why protein), the result is very bland and doesn’t taste like fruit at all. This blender has a pre-programmed dial for smoothie and when I use it, I get an inch or two of foam on the top that doesn’t taste good. When I use manual dial, I don’t get this foam

 After about one year of use, I noticed a black grease material forming on the bottom of my blender jar underneath the blade mechanism. I later learned this is the grease that lubricates the ball bearings in the blade mechanism. It got worse and worse until the bearings themselves started falling out. These bearings would get shredded during the blending process, leaving metal shavings behind

 I suggest the purchasing the following replacement mechanism for $15. It's easy to replace and this new blade works better than the initial blades ever did. Here's a review after 2 years of use.  This blender is good but has one major but treatable defect.

 Asked me to ship back (free shipping label) my blender and call a number 2 days after shipping. I did ship it and upon calling was told to call back after couple more days. The second time they confirmed receiving the blender and shipped a brand new one in couple more days. Overall, i am glad they stand behind their products

 I wish it was faster but better than nothing. ———— I purchased this about 5 years ago and barely used it. I used it at most 40 times or so in this period. Recently started using the blender again to start drinking green smoothies and realized black oil coming out from bottom of jar with burning smell when using the unit

 i feel disappointed as this is a relatively expensive unit. I would not buy this again and instead go to another brand with available replacement parts.

Good till it lasts, not so good brand

 We are on the second warranty replacement (thank goodness for a 7 year warranty) for the same problem. Exercising your warranty requires contacting Oster, providing pictures, descriptions, and some weird identifying numbers, then shipping the entire unit back (both jar and base) at your cost. Once it is in the mail, they process the exchange and ship a replacement to you.  If you're willing to go through the hassle of a return every couple of years this is a great option when you can't afford the quality of a Vitamix
